Watercolour interlude/Art dump
Mar. 29th, 2020 07:09 pmI'm taking a break from painting my two elephants this weekend and trying some watercolour painting. Neither of the two pieces have turned out how I imagined, but I'm not unhappy with them all the same. I really need to keep reminding myself I'm a proper novice and need to practice, practice, practice before I'll be able to produce the kind of work that I'm getting excited about watching Youtube tutorials.
Yesterday it was a Sam day. I thought this could be Boy King Sam, but also, it could be Witcher Sam too...

DCU sketches
Sep. 2nd, 2017 08:03 pmI signed up for the DCU bang, so I'm exploring some new characters (but since one of them was played by Jensen, I feel I'm not straying that far!)
I'm also doubling up on
drawesome's week 7 challenge, which was to do something related to the 5th interest in my profile - athletics.

Art for all!
Aug. 22nd, 2017 08:14 pmI can't remember how I came across this now but I've sent off for my sketchbook. It sounds like such a wonderful project, and I'd LOVE to go to Brooklyn just to browse through their hundreds and thousands of sketchbooks.
I thought I'd post it here in case any of my Flisties fancied having a go - you can put anything and everything in your book, you don't have to be an 'artist' to contribute.

Tom Ellis ... or not
May. 2nd, 2017 11:13 pmSince I need to produce something for Tom Ellis to sign before I leave for Italy, I thought I might take a couple of reference photos with me to work from in tonight's sketchbooking class. I kind of like the watercolour techniques we were trying but sadly, the end results don't resemble Tom very much at all. In fact the second one looks more like that Tyler thingy from Teenwolf. Which is weird since I've never watched the show and have only see pics of him at conventions and on Tumblr.
Never mind, it's all good practice!
First one (done on sketchbook paper which is really rubbish at taking watercolour, soaks it up like blotting paper).

Second one (done on this weird plastic-like paper I bought to try out, and it's quite fun to use).

I'm wondering whether I can now go over this subtle watercolour with something else and make it more like Tom.

Sketching and bears
Apr. 24th, 2017 08:56 pmNB this post contains nudes of both sexes.
Bhangra bear is coming along, his waistcoat is taking a while but is starting to look how I envisaged it so yay! The combination of paint and acrylic markers is working well, though the markers lose their nib integrity pretty quickly so I'm having to trim them back with scissors.
Arty things - update
Mar. 10th, 2017 02:49 pmThe sketchbooking class has been interesting - I can't say I'm enjoying everything we're doing but it is certainly great for pushing me outside my comfort zone! The last few of weeks he's been getting us to look at uses of colour to imply distance, suggest relationships between objects and create interest. The three pictures below are the results of my efforts.
First was an attempt to show distance through shades of colour. I'm not sure that what I did followed his instructions, because he was talking about using bluer shades for the more distant objects, and I didn't do that. The painting is pretty naff, but I did enjoy messing about with these colours.( Lots of images (incl some NSFW) under the cut )

The Creative Sketchbooking course has been more about drawing stuff this term so far - much more my comfort zone than playing with flour and chalk.
I posted the right hand page before but the umbrella pic is new.( Read more... )

Stuff and business
Nov. 2nd, 2016 02:52 pmSketchbooking class was fun last night though I'm not sure I ended up with the kind of page I was supposed to - well it didn't look much like anyone else's, any way. But I enjoyed myself.
The idea was to explore how a page could provide future inspiration and also to look at fitting a number of different unconnected images onto the page. Steve brought this box of miscellaneous oddments again, and some pcitures from magazines, and I ended up with the wee vase, a fox and a lacrosse match. When I'd finished with those three, I got another couple of pics to fill the spaces, and then we ran out of time.( Read more... )

Sketchbook stroll
Jul. 17th, 2016 02:25 pmI actually got off my fat backside and did something today. I'd signed up for this free event a while ago and was poised on the brink of chickening out, but forced myself to go - and of course I really enjoyed it. It was a walk round Holywells Park and Landseer Park (which I'd never realised were so close together before), and they provided a sketch book and pencils to use. The idea was we would stop every now and then and draw something, but I think I spent more time talking than drawing! The woman I talked to most mustn't have been too put off though, as she suggested we meet up to do some sketching again sometime soon. Which is a nice idea - I need to get out more and to use actual art materials instead of sitting on the sofa using PS6 all the time.
So anyway, here's the results of the stroll'n'sketch:

Birthday cock ups! Oops
Feb. 7th, 2016 10:44 amIt's
borgmama1of5's 60th birhtday today. Happy Birthday to one of the loveliest folk on my flist!
So, um, here's the thing. She has a special request over on her journal which I totally misread and so here's your birthday gift - pretty much the opposite of what you asked for! LOL Sorry my dear - I'm blaming my own advanced age.
Can we pretend this was Season 3? LOL

Jun. 24th, 2014 05:04 pmThis is a kind of fill for this prompt by
a_starfish on
hoodie_time's Dean H/C meme - boy there are some delicious prompts over there! I say kind of because it's a bit of a mash-up of prompts (Demon!Dean injured and trapped in the bunker, and Dean impaled through the leg/arm)
