The Creative Sketchbooking course has been more about drawing stuff this term so far - much more my comfort zone than playing with flour and chalk.
I posted the right hand page before but the umbrella pic is new.

Here it is close up. Drawn with a Japanese brush felt tip pen.

Then last week we were trying to measure and get perspective by using one point on a reference picture and then scanning out from here to any points of interest. It was hard! But this time I chose a photo from a nice coffee table book about the TV series of Game of Thrones.

And again this week, we were trying using water to soften lines so this is using a black watercolour pencil. I know nothing, Jon Snow!

I love the effects, so I'll definitely be trying this again, though I did my usual thing of getting the nose and hence the whole face too long.
Got to admit, now I'm taking my own source pics, I'm enjoying the whole thing a lot more!

There's something about the umbrellas that I really like. I don't know why, there's just something really lovely about it. <3

I'm with Toratio, no idea why but I have a huge love for the umbrella one, not that everything else isn't gorgeous!

Yeah, I kind of like that one myself - it's much looser than I'm comfortable doing but it came out ok!

I know you like structure in your pieces but sometimes you just have to allow the work/lines their own freedom :)

Jon Snow is very nice. I don't know much about it, except I avoid the fandom like Twilight. (Those are two fandoms the scare the fecal matter out of me.)

The picture of the of the kids... that makes me sad. The Umbrellas is cool. The Tree, makes me think of Death. A Grim Reaper walking. Maybe that is why the kids picture makes me sad.

I read the books but couldn't be bothered with the TV series - though Kit Harrington is rather nice to look at (and draw!)
The two kids were refugees, so maybe that's coming across in the drawing?

I'm very partial to the tree because I like the non-linear border and the way it curves. The umbrellas are something special though. Maybe it's the light and dark contrast but also I think the ink stokes look like sheets of rain. So very cool.

Yay! I hoped the brushstrokes would give a rainy impression! Thank you!

The umbrellas are awesome and kinda remind me of the high-angle shot of the townspeople under the umbrellas in "Scarecrow". :D

Very Jon Snow, too!

The umbrella piece is very eye-catching - I think your style really suits that brush felt tip pen! And Jon Snow - lovely!!!!

Funnily enough, that loose brush strokes thing is very uncomfortable for me! LOL But I'm glad you like it because I was happy how it turned out. :)

thank you :) i'm honestly looking into getting back into drawing people again. (i used to costume design in college). i can still draw well.. landscapes, houses, random objects, ... but people just left me behind for some reason. and of course, i'm choosing to draw a person that is too freaking beautiful for me to do them justice... Jensen lol. i've already scraped a multitude of ones i have started heh. i'm not sure what number try i'm on now.

and i've always been interested in digital art and how it works. i want to know if it'll be something i'd be interested in.

Oh Jensen is SO hard to draw! I think it's because he has those perfect proportions, and so it's hard to catch a likeness and not make him look kind of anodyne.

I never used digital before I started SPN artings - I started using a pretty good free software program called GIMP - it does pretty much everything Photoshop does, so it's a good place to start. I would say it you play around with it and think you might like it, it's worth buying a drawing tablet to use, because trying to freehand draw using a mouse or keyboard is really difficult! Or if you have a tablet (iPad type) there are free drawing apps you can try too, though they don't have layers (which is a marvellous invention!).

I agree with most of the others about loving the umbrella one, and for me it actually looks like it's raining!

Jon Snow is beautiful, I love his hair, but I agree with you that his nose isn't quite right.

Yes, I was pleased with his hair, but Kit's face is much shorter and squatter-looking than I've done him here. HShould have done my measuring better! LOL

I love the contrast in the umbrella pic; it's really pulling me in. Nice portrait!
