Arty post - Drawtober & other things

It's been a while since I posted anything arty that isn't fanart, but I've recently started a new art class, similar to my old sketchbooking one, where the challenge is to try lots of different things and push yourself out of your comfort zone.

The theme of the first two weeks has been caricature, and after sticking to pencil last week, this week it was all about going straight in with the indian ink, and using bamboo pens and sticks to make sure I wasn't too precious. Wanda Gág with her giant palette was the first one I did today, and I really liked it!

Having felt this was successful it rather paralysed me and it took me about 15 minutes to start on anything else, and then I just filled the opposite page with a mixture of caricature and just loose ink. It was fun while I was doing it but doesn't look anything special.

Meanwhile my lovely little Drawesome community is doing Drawtober with a list of our own prompts. I've done Day 1 - Pie. It's not a great photo, but scanning would be worse since it goes across two pages of the sketchbook.
Guess what it's titled... yep! Pie(s) in the sky...

Nicely done! To me, both of those drawings come across as having a lot of life in them. 🙂

Bonus appreciation for the background you made for the pies—it looks great, and I'm going to try to remember it for my future reference!

Thank you! Re: the background, I've been seeing lots of really fab artists do these lovely loose splashy random things, so thought I'd have a go too. Glad you think it works!

Both of these are great but I am obsessed with the bird and it's treat! The eye is so captivating, however you accomplished that shiny effect I could stare at it for hours! Nicely done.

Thank you! I just left a bit of the white paper showing this time to get the glint in the eye - but it's easy to add a wee dot of white after if you need to.
