Sketchbooking (with fanarts)

My sketchbooking course started again this week, and we're going to be drawing at least half of the time this term - yay!
This week was about creating a sense of depth by using different marks and different media (pencil, biro). We had to choose one of two images to trial out techniques, and my first one was two children (which I then turned into Wee Dean and Sammy of course...LOL!).
Here's the slightly SPN-ified version, in 4B and HB pencil with black biro accents.


And the other one was a tree with some interesting vines, which I didn't quite have time to finish. This one is all in black biro.


And here's the gorgeous sunset reflected in the Norman Foster black glass of the Willis building, taken on my phone coming home from watching LaLaLand yesterday.

The film was very disappointing, didn't live up to the hype at all. Yes, Ryan Gosling is nice to look at and plays piano very well but I found the story boring, the ending contrived and unsatisfying, and the whole thing just average where I was expecting wonders. Made me glad I went on a meerkat two for one.

I love the Weechesters--such beautiful children, and so much personality! The tree is intriguing--I'd love to see how it looks, finished. The sky photo is just amazing--how beautiful!

Thank you! I don't know if I'll get to finish the tree - the source pic belongs to our tutor, and we tend to do new things every week. Glad you liked it though!

I love how much character there is in that first one--it just implies so much action. Or maybe contact is what I really mean, from the shirt-tugging to the climbing up on/being piggybacked. The gradation of different levels of shadow in the tree one is so lovely, well.

And holy wow, those clouds!! Great shot!

I wish I'd had by camera with me for that dramatic sky, but I had to make do with the phone. Glad you like the drawnings! As I was saying to borgmama, the photo of the kids bears no resemblance to Winchesters but SPN is everywhere...in my head ha ha!

There's so much character in that first one, so much we aren't seeing and yet it's there and present in the image itself despite it being out of our eyeline :) The tree is lovely, will you get chance to finish it?

Aw thanks, petal. I don't know if I'll get to finish the tree as he provided the picture reference and we tend to do something new each week.

I am snuggled into Steve's chair, blankets covering me like a cacoon, and I'm so dosed up you could drop a bomb on my head I wouldn't feel it! I'm aware when the meds wear off I'll certainly know about it.

You could try doing the rest of the tree from memory, perhaps? I know it's ridiculous because - plague carrier - but I really have an urge to art something, no idea what though. I might do something for the4 Whimsical meme, for someone.

I so love your sketches. The different textures are very cool; I'm trying to figure out if you sketched the frame around the kids as well, did you?
That photo is magnificent, the clouds are on FIRE in that reflection!

I did the frame for the kids in PS with a scribbly brush, your keen eye spotted that nicely!

Those are some gorgeous clouds in that sunset! Very nicely exposed too to catch all the colors - I've found it very hard to get all the colors of the sunset to show up well in photos.

Aw. wee Sam and Dean are beautiful! I love Sammy's hair and Dean's freckles. I'm amazed that the tree is in black biro, who knew it could look so artistic! And the photo of the sunset reflected in the glass building is gorgeous.
