I actually got off my fat backside and did something today. I'd signed up for this free event a while ago and was poised on the brink of chickening out, but forced myself to go - and of course I really enjoyed it. It was a walk round Holywells Park and Landseer Park (which I'd never realised were so close together before), and they provided a sketch book and pencils to use. The idea was we would stop every now and then and draw something, but I think I spent more time talking than drawing! The woman I talked to most mustn't have been too put off though, as she suggested we meet up to do some sketching again sometime soon. Which is a nice idea - I need to get out more and to use actual art materials instead of sitting on the sofa using PS6 all the time.

So anyway, here's the results of the stroll'n'sketch:

Our first stop - drawing a handily posing cormorant. Though mine looks like a duck.
P1410679
At our next stop I didn't know what to draw - flowers ain't my thing - so I ended up drawing my new friend instead.
P1410680
A gnarly beech tree (or is it an elephant?)
P1410681
View from a hill in Landseer Park - and yup, I've confirmed landscapes ain't my thing either.
P1410682
And finally, while everyone else was drawing a big tree, I tried to catch the inappropriately attired bloke in his suit pants with mobile phone attached to his belt. And used biro instead of pencil because I hadn't taken a pencil sharpener with me and couldn't be bothered asking to borrow one.
P1410683
It was both fun and kind of scary to draw stuff I don't usually draw, and do it so speedily too. Apparently they will be runnign some more of these free events so I'll have to go again - apart from anything else - free sketch pad! Yay!

Yes! If we get round to it - but she seems like someone who gets things done, unlike me, so there's a good chance we will try it.

It's something to do with the Year of Walking and art, I'm not sure exactly but you should check, they might be doing something similar in your area.

I'll have to have a look because only for the upping of the game that comes from arting *with* people, I'd like to try it. Despite my nerves at arting in front of people!

Oh man, that sounds like so much fun! Free art materials, going for walks, meeting new people and making friends, drawing... So many lovely things all rolled into one! And I enjoy your sketches, too. Overall sounds like an awesome experience. Thank you for sharing it with us! ❤

Hahaha, this gives me an idea - maybe next time my fiancé wants to go for a Pokémon Go walk, I'll bring a sketchpad and doodle every time he wants to stop to catch or fight his Pokémons. Mmm, yes, I very much like this idea...

Oooh, that sounds like a cool event. That totally is an elephant. And I like your cormorant :D It seems that every corner of (this) country I've been to, there are cormorants. And they're over there as well. That makes me so happy. What a cool way to spend your afternoon!

It's kind of nice to find birds in common - there's something comforting about similarity though finding new critters is fun. I still can't get my head round the fact that American robins are nothing like ours! LOL

Looks like a fun way to pass the afternoon and get out and see the sights. It probably also causes you to look at details you might otherwise miss. I like the one of your new friend and I also really like the landscape.

Sketching in public is a skill unto itself. I did a lot of it in art school but hated having random strangers looking over my shoulder all the time. Good for you for doing it and getting such good results! And to find a friend as well...

The good thing about this strolling round parks was there weren't many people about to look over our shoulders so that feeling of public scrutiny wasn't there, and there wasn't really any pressure to show anyone what we'd done - so it was low pressure.
