Even the beard can't put me off. LOL

My sad excuse for a coffee painting appears for a fraction of a second at 1:10 but nothing else from our team's efforts, sadly. Maybe later.

This week fell at a bad time for me, as I was going away from the Thursday, plus two members of our already reduced team of nine ended up not taking part, while a third was not feeling it... I somehow doubt our team will take part again (at least not together in the same format). One invisible person added herself to our team early on then never replied to any emails (which is the only contact route GISH gave) so we have no idea who she was!

However, looking back at what I did, it wasn't too bad. I had said this year I was only going to do challenges I really fancied, and that I was going to try and make them as good as I possibily could. I don't think I quite managed that, but it was a moderate amount of fun! And my active team mates did some fricking awesome stuff, so there is that.

Anyhow, here is a glimpse of my (part) week.

#121 SIDE-BY-SIDE. You know those garden gnomes that dotted your grandmother’s backyard? Well, it’s been a while and now they have fallen on hard times. They have turned to a life of crime and misanthropy. Their little gnome hearts are filled with despair, hatred, and regret. Show us the before and after.

When gnomes go bad...things get very dark, very quick.

I'm visiting my mum at the moment to celebrate her 84th birthday, and today we had a day out in Hereford. We picked the right day - after a cloudy, misty start the sun came out and so the various stained glass windows in the cathedral were shown off to their advantage. Plus in the afternoon, a choir and orchestra were rehearsing for their evening concert, so we were treated to some totally appropriate music while looking round.

Here's a vid to demonstrate.

When my photos decide to upload to Flickr I'll do a little picspam. Yep, I bet you can't wait, huh?

My lovely friend Lois has made this beautiful animation for Remembrance Sunday, which is going to be projected onto Sherringham Hall in Norfolk. With her permission, I'm sharing a minute's silence here.

World War I ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, 1918. People died on battlefields up to the last minute. Many died afterwards, from wounds. Millions died from the Spanish flu in the years that followed. These were sad and tragic times - and even though this war was so bloody and damaging, all war didn't end like it should have. People didn't learn.

So Remembrance Sunday is still relevant to us, and it doesn't matter that different countries have different days on which to do this - the more times we remember, the more we are drawn together in the hope that we can make the world a better place.

This is helping parents put their rambunctious kidlets to sleep, so maybe listening to Tom Hardy's voice will help my lovely friends who are having trouble sleeping. Plus, it is an awesome little message of positivity too.

Win win.

Just leaving this here because sometimes we need something life affirming and happy. A reminder that people can be kind and awesome.

We popped down to the waterfront this evening to catch a performance of some 'art' - this one's called Clarion Call and it's supposed to evoke the waiting women of WW1. THere are arrays of speakers placed on rooftops all around the marina, then a helicopter flies over and supposedly boosts the singing that is being broadcast via the speakers. It's being performed twice a day for a week or so, and it's kind of interesting, I suppose. My hubby really likes it, and has been down to listen a couple of times now - I'm not that struck by it but it was worth going the once.

There's a video of some of the singing, if anyone's interested. The nicest bits are around 4-5 minutes in.

I actually think it would be better without the helicopter noise, but then we were also being treated to a daft bloke on his balcony who was blowing a shofar when we arrived and then got out a megaphone and shouted throughout the performance. Because apparently this was all a conspiracy of evil God-haters, and the singers were sun-worshiping witches. Yeah of course they were, because they were women. Blimey, some people are really nutty.

Here's the religious dingbat with his shofar.Small picspam )

Hi darlings, I'm back from Lovely Lisbon and found that this had been posted on Twitter while I was away. So I've uploaded it to Youtube. I'm sure there'll be multiple copies on there but I couldn't find one.

Back to the holiday weekend! It was hotter in England than Portugal, which is just nutty, but it was still blooming hot enough for me. Our apartment looked really run down from the outside, and was opposite one of those tiny shops that sell everything, and had some very dodgy blokes hanging round outside from 11am till midnight - but the inside was really nice and airy. Not that we spent much time there, what with birthday celebrations and sightseeing, and of course, eating.

Here's a small picspam to whet your appetites for a visit one day - [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver I'm looking at you! I'm certainly planning to return, as three days wasn't anywhere near enough time to see everything.
One of Paul's photos of me in the castle - nice to see the warning after we'd walked all round the scary high walls with no guard rails... LOLRead more... )

Of course, I should be finishing my summergen, but Paul's got the footy on and I need some distraction from Ronaldo's sulking so...

Now this has made me nostalgic for Seasons 4, 5 and 6. And a bit of 7 which I am nearly finishing re-watching.

Thanks so much to chellexxx for posting this gem - I walked down Penny Lane past that barber shop for Rachel's wake and though I have no desire to go home to Liverpool, I needed to post this here so I can rewatch when I need to. Seeing how happy he made everyone at the Phil at the end, and hearing Hey Jude - yeah. Tears, lots of tears through the smiles.

I had to laugh when he signed that Penny Lane street sign - I bet that's gone by now! Think how much someone could get for it on eBay! LOL

Painting in the sunshine with occasional interruptions from the elderly neighbours whose garage I'm using, and real live bees that very much like the flowering bush by the garage door!

JIBVIDS!

I finally uploaded to Youtube, and wanted to post here, as I see people are already making gifs from mine and other folks' vids (uncredited of course - geesh). Anyhow. I apologise for the unsteadi-cam. No tripods or camera supports were allowed this year because people are idiots, so hand holding for 30-45 minutes at a time messes up my shoulders and neck and means everything wobbles. (Ha ha what's new when you're 3 stone overweight?!)

Guess what. Saturday's J2 panel was crashed by Misha and where was the drama then?

One day I'll work out how to use iMovie to stitch these together but until then, here's part 2

JenMisha Panel with giant Jared bonus.

Part 2 including closing ceremony

You can find the rest on my playlists on Youtube, I just wanted to put some of the vids here.

I thought when this popped up in my inbox it was going to tell me May or June. Huh. Oh well, it does look good. I'm much more a fan of Newt than Harry Potter. Probably because he comes minus all the interminable teenage angst. Plus I can't help seeing Eddie Redmayne's Scamander as a potential Dr Who. LOL

This speech is fantastic. I feel like every man in the world should have to sit down and listen to this. The world needs more men like Justin, and my hubby. Men with intelligence, self awareness and sensitivity.
Happy international women's day!

For Jensen's 40th birthday, don't burst my bubble...

Apologies for the random notification! LOL But I was watching the freeze and didn't notice it, and I can't be bothered trying to record this again. If only I knew how to snag a vid from Twitter since they seem to have disabled the old right click... *sigh*.
