Scribble Time for this month's [community profile] drawesome challenge! First one I've done for ages.
Just a quick effort from last night. Done with Zebra Sarasa gel pen from a comic book cover reference.

I didn't really follow snowflake this year but a few friends did this one and I thought - why not.

3. something that is your favorite colour
Weirdly there isn't really anything in our living room that is my fave colour so here's a snippet of our curtains. Not keen on the green but the red and dark red are nice.

Just heard I've got a sculpture to paint this year! I'm excited because two trails had already failed to select any of mine (including my home town - AGAIN!!), and though I know there are several trails yet to decide, I was getting despondent without real cause.

Any way - Hastings want my Bayduck Tapestry design and I'm delighted! The ducks are huge, so I'm hoping me and my friend Lois, who's also had one picked, will be able to fit them both into the Makerspace building where we painted our elephants last year, because we should be getting them delivered in a couple of weeks time! Meep!

To give you an idea of the size, here's one that's already been painted by someone else.
amberdreams: (Default)

Ok, I'm shamelessly stealing this idea from the lovely [personal profile] goss,  because first and foremost, since she's busy giving doodle gifts, I'd like to do one for her!
But anyone who wants to play, please feel free!

I'll do as many as I can up to the end of Monday (let's make it a long weekend since I'm already halfway in).

Leave a comment sharing 3 things that bring you joy and/or a quote, phrase or song lyric that you love, and I'll doodle you something inspired by it.

Happy More Joy Day! ♥

As a diversion in between designing for this year's trails - so many deadlines recently! - been doodling.

2022 Jan-spiral doodle

I could definitely have done with starting bigger - this is only 11cm across so far, still plenty of space to fill! It's hard to colour in the tiny spaces...especially as the markers I'm using aren't particularly fine and the ink tends to spread.

A long, long time ago, Marvel Trumps Hate 2020 had an auction to raise money for charity.  The Marvel Art Party on Discord put together a package deal of 9 artists, of which I was one. We were won by the dynamic duo, Mystrana and Greywrites, and after much faffing and deliberation about what to do, I finally managed to finish my offering! Mystrana and Greywrites were happy for us to share with the world, so you can check all the fills in the AO3 collection.

Without further ado, I present Witch Bucky and his familiar, Alpine the cat, flying over some medieval city, in a far distant and happy AU.
First the SFW version with pants

And the NSFW version minus pants
Marvel Trumps Hate 2020
The naked except for boots version came first, pants were added digitally!

After finally making the decision about what to draw, the process was pretty simple.
I had been wanting Bucky to be flying on his broomstick, when I saw some photos taken using a special lens which showed the scene in a kind of inverted global view. I also looked at medieval maps with the building drawn in street view style, and decided to combine the two ideas for the background.
Here's the aerial view without Bucky and co.
Marvel Trumps Hate 2020
It's drawn in pencil, inked then watercoloured. The paper was round but wouldn't fit on the scanner so it got cropped into an ellipse. 😂
Bucky was drawn and painted on a separate piece of watercolour paper then I mashed the two scanned paintings together digitally. I adjusted the colours to reflect the actual colours as the scans leach a lot of the vibrance out. Other than that, there's no digital interferrence with the traditional art.
Here's the Bucky painting with his basket/sack of companions. Up to you whether he or Alpine have bewitched the actual Avengers or Bucky's made the plushies for his cat to play with. Either way, little Plushy Cap is happy to hold onto Bucky's finger...😍

I don't know if I'll have time to do a Splat(TM) for this but it does look like fun.

This time I'm painting in a really nice space called Makerspace - I knew the elephants were going to be problematic at nearly 3m long and 1.6m tall, so I'd been desperately looking around for somewhere to paint. My brother in law had offered up his garage which I'd used for the rocket, but fitting two elephants in there would have been really cramped. Anyhow, long story short, I posted on a creatives group on Facebook, and this Makerspace came up. I had heard of it before but I'd thought they only had the top floor of the premises, which last time I'd seen pictures were full of lathes and printers and laser cutting equipment. But it turned out they'd expanded into the ground floor - had two decent sized rooms with natural light and big double doors - flipping marvellous.

So I've made great progress! One is practically finished, I just need to get sign off from the trail organisers next week so I can varnish, and the second one just needs the special paint applied to the legs and some finishing touches and it too will be done. I'm really pleased. I'd thought they would take me much longer!

So here are a few sneak peeks. I know you won't, but please don't share anywhere, as the trails always want to keep the full designs secret until the launch dates.

This one is called It's a Holi Holiday, and is meant to be a representation of the Hindu Holi festival of colour.
Day 6
Day 6
It's all done with cans of spray paint apart from the flowers which were acrylic marker pens, and the hearts which I used a stencil brush. The hands are three different sized stencils I cut myself.

The second one is called We Will Rise, and has a more serious theme - the phoenixes are refugees/migrants, fleeing their homes to make new lives in our country. Luton, where this trail is going to be, has a large population of migrants of varying backgrounds. I got some special paint called Scorched Earth from Jackson Art, which they made for a charity called Migrate. It's a black acrylic, made from ash taken from Kurdish fields destroyed in Iraq. When I read about the making of the paint, I bought 2 tubes in the hopes of being able to use it on something meaningful, so I was really happy when this design got chosen.

I hope people will stop for a moment and think about the many reasons people have for leaving everything they know behind to try and start all over in a strange place.

Anyway, I haven't applied the Scorched Earth paint yet, that's what I need to do next week, so here's We Will Rise as of yesterday.
I can't get back far enough to get the whole side in from this direction
Day 6

Day 6
amberdreams: (Default)
I stumbled across this somewhere and thought it sounded like a fun way to motivate myself to fill up a sketchbook in the absence of my night school course. I managed day one but then the house caught up with me and I'm too knackered to do days 2 and 3 -- yet. Looking at the Facebook site and seeing all the art everyone's creating makes me want to catch up, so maybe tomorrow...

So how it works is you register via this link, and they send you an email every day for a month with two challenges to try. There's no pressure, no targets, you can do as much or little as you want. The joining up email had a link to a how to make your own sketchbook -which I wasn't going to bother doing since I have SO many empty sketchbooks, but then I caved and made a very messy thing.Read more... )

I've pretty much finished, but can't get it signed off yet so have to wait before varnishing. It's probably just as well the rocket is sitting my brother in law's garage and not inside our house, or I'd be inclined to keep fiddling with it.

I've been busy, but for some reason, motivating myself to post has been lacking, so this is just a sample catch up really.
I've finished painting a giant hare for a sculpture trail in Southend, a book bench for a trail in Kings Lynn, and I'm now in the middle of painting a giant rocket for Leicester. The hare and the bench both fitted in the house fine, but the rocket is 1m wide at both base and belly, and all our doors are 90cm max. So I'm set up in my brother in law's garage, which was kind of him!

It's a urban wildlife theme - so there's a night and a day side, and there'll be various critters featured.

Early days yet though.

In between times I'm trying to draw stuff. Any old stuff really. Here's a doodle page, trying out Zig Writers - I love the fine liner ends of the double ended pens.

I've done a watercolour for Meanttobe, hopefully posting with my author next week, and also in the pipeline are two elephants which will be arriving once the rocket is finished. Fingers crossed I can get them both in the garage! They are much bigger than the Elmers - 3m long!

I'm asking those who love the outdoors to post a picture on your page. A picture that you took. Just a pic. No description (but yes alt text!). The goal is to regain peace and harmony without negativity. Please copy the text, put a picture on your page, and let's look at these beautiful pictures.

Not SPN today, and only one prompt. This one is Labyrinth, for @nikolas_tower's #Obscutober on Instagram.
Day 2 Jareth
I'd messed up this page in my sketchbook trying out colours for one of my SPN cinema fills, but then I thought, why not try ink on top of the random watercolours? So yep, there's some inking, then some gouache on top, and Jareth has a blue face, but why not?!

Day one combines three prompts from my four lists!
2020 Artober Day 1 3 prompts

Originally I'd thought about having Dean being the one hidden in the tangled yarn, but when I was looking for references, I decided Dean's surprised face beat Sam's, so Sam became the one whumped by Clotho.

So this is my own SPNtober prompt hide (which became hidden), yarn from the lovely Drawesome com's Drawtober list, and restrained from Whumptober.

Due to the controversy over Jake Parker, this year I thought I'd do my own SPN version of Inktober. It might be a pleasant distraction from the imminent end of the show. If anyone wants to snag my prompt list for art or maybe a 100 word drabble a day, please feel free!

I probably won't manage a prompt a day but I am aiming to do something for all the prompts, even if I end up combining some!
