For posterity I giffed the dancing J2. I love how jared always gets this wicked, naughty little boy look. while Jensen pretends he's so cool.Read more... )

Good news! Giraffic Park has a new home thanks to my lovely neighbours and their garage. It's still not tall enough to stand him up but I've got him on my homemade wheely trolly thing and so have been able to paint in relative comfort. It's cold and the wind swirls rubbish around but it's undercover and roomy!
Yesterday I did this much (after spending a good half hour or so trying to unwrap him without bashing his head on the floor!).

The weather forecast for today is good so me and Paul dragged Giraffic Park out onto the front drive and I've been making spray while the sun shines! LOL He's standing there drying and the spray paint has run (doh! I don't know what I'm doing) and the people wandering down the hill to work are giving him some real funny looks.

My giraffe has arrived and is currently lying down in the newly covered alleyway between our house and next door. Sadly the new roof is about the same height as Giraffic Park himself, so he can't stand up under there as planned. Doh.

So who didn't double and triple check exactly how tall the giraffe sculpture is? Uh huh. ME!

Here they all are in the charity's warehouse, awaiting distribution.
giraffes in the warehouse

Hmmm, thought I, those look much taller than 7ft, unless that lady is a lot shorter than she appears... and yup they are actually 2.5m tall. Which is 8.2 feet.

So who is now revising her plans for housing her giraffe in the covered alley down the side of the house, and wondering how we're going to get him into the living room at all? ME! There will be clearance as the ceiling is 9ft, but only just. Plus how will he fit through the doors...

Maybe I need to do some rapid reassessments and work out whether I need to paint him in situ in Worcester!

Just a quick post to show Norwich Hareport in his new position, sitting on a wooden chest looking out of our front window. Yay for tall ceilings - there's actually a good six inch clearance for his ears (as long as i don't move him forward into the bay window.

Finally I can now reach his tummy to paint it easier! When he was on the floor, even lying on my back I couldn't really get to it properly.

So now the plan is to finish everything I can low down on the body, before putting him back on his wheely trolley thing and finishing off his top half, including the flying hares themselves. All before Friday when Mr Giraffe arrives. Woo hoo!

Note to self - never, ever try taking one of these animal sculpture thingies upstairs, ever again.

Me and Paul managed to get Hareport down from the bedroom without knocking the light off the wall, or gouging chunks out of walls, bannisters or our legs, and without damaging his paintwork (apart from a bit of blue rubbed off the tip of an ear) - but man, I'm fecking knackered! My back's killing me. I told Paul I should go on the downside with the hare's legs but he insisted on being the man and take what he thought was the more risky bit (going downstairs backwards), which meant I got the hare's bum. Which was large. And heavy, and bloody difficult to hang onto with small hands and short arms.

Anyhow, I did manage not to drop the hare on Paul's head, so I'll count that as a win. The furniture is all moved around, the upset spiders have been relocated and the dust hoovered up. The hare's now sitting on a wooden box in our living room so I can hopefully now get to his stomach to paint the damn ducks on the river, and Paul is happy because I've managed to arrange the room so he can still see the telly, so he's now esconced in his old man's chair ready to watch the rugby.

Me, I think I might have an old lady nap now. LOL!

It's been a while.

Sketchbooking is continuing to be interesting. I also did a one day workshop with the same tutor on mixed media.

Tonight we did minimising the palette and had a choice between full monochrome and a limited palette. I'd meant to have a go at both but ran out of time.
So here's my monochrome, sepia portrait from a stock photoRead more... )

I thought it was about time I did a little progress rerport on my giant sculptures, and my hare painting in particular. I've had him in the bedroom for ages and not really been doing much with him, but I have finally started making progress. Hopefully next week I'll knucke down and finish him off.

I've been chugging away at submitting designs for various sculpture trails all over the country, and now the intital selection results are starting to come in. I've got one penguin design on the Dundee shortlist, and all THREE of my giraffes have been shortlisted for Worcester. Okay, this doesn't mean I'll definitely get any of them commissioned  but I might...so when do I start panicking? LOL!!!!

I had the photos taken for this FB meme but forgot to finish posting them, so I've done a catch up on Facebook today, and thought I'd follow in jj1564 and dizzojay's footsteps and post here too. Sorry about the multi-postings lately! One more to come today - my first spn_rb post! Yay!

I put in five designs for a sculpture trail in Norwich next year, and one has been picked out! So sometime in the next few weeks I'll be taking delivery of a 75kg hare sculpture to paint. I can't remember if I posted about the designs here or not, but the winning design is called Norwich Hareport and features some fairy-winged flying hares.

Yesterday I had a day off painting to flit off to London to the Heroes and Villains convention (more a mini comic con event than a JIB) where I got a photo op with the lovely John Barrowman, and Katie Cassidy. The poor girl left SPN behind her years ago, but got two SPN hobbits plastered to her slim sides when 99.9% of the other fans were there for Arrow. Never mind!

Here's the glorious Barrowman, flashing his knees for us.Read more... )

I think Bhangra Bear is basically done. The white of the metal strut things looks a bit odd so I thought I'd paint them too but apart from that, it's just about finished. I've got to get approval before varnishing - no idea what their criteria are for signing it off but hopefully it will pass muster!

It's hard to get photos indoors, but I've taken a few to spam you with LOL.

NB this post contains nudes of both sexes.

Bhangra bear is coming along, his waistcoat is taking a while but is starting to look how I envisaged it so yay! The combination of paint and acrylic markers is working well, though the markers lose their nib integrity pretty quickly so I'm having to trim them back with scissors.

After the bears there is nudity! )

This lion is killing me! LOL. I did some painting yesterday but today decided I really need to get him up in the air a bit so I can paint the underneath bits and the insides of his legs without having to lie on the floor. So that meant searching around for something to prop him up on - not easy when his legs are so spaced out, and his feet so massive! Anyhow, we had some work done yonks ago which meant some original Victorian quarry tiles were taken up, and we saved them because they might come in useful one day. Today was that day! I brushed off as many as I could find that didn't have too much gunk adhering to their bases, and voila. Clarence is now about 8-9 inches higher off the floor than before.

Thought I might as well post another progress report and test the cross posting from DW at the same time!

I painted quite a lot today though it doesn't really look like it as much of it was second coats over already painted areas. though Kaa is now there...
