Giraffic progress - a morning's work
Mar. 23rd, 2018 11:27 amYesterday I did this much (after spending a good half hour or so trying to unwrap him without bashing his head on the floor!).
Sorry this one's upside down( Read more... )

Hareports and giraffes

Here they all are in the charity's warehouse, awaiting distribution.

Hmmm, thought I, those look much taller than 7ft, unless that lady is a lot shorter than she appears... and yup they are actually 2.5m tall. Which is 8.2 feet.
So who is now revising her plans for housing her giraffe in the covered alley down the side of the house, and wondering how we're going to get him into the living room at all? ME! There will be clearance as the ceiling is 9ft, but only just. Plus how will he fit through the doors...
Maybe I need to do some rapid reassessments and work out whether I need to paint him in situ in Worcester!
Hare we are again
Mar. 12th, 2018 04:30 pmJust a quick post to show Norwich Hareport in his new position, sitting on a wooden chest looking out of our front window. Yay for tall ceilings - there's actually a good six inch clearance for his ears (as long as i don't move him forward into the bay window.
Finally I can now reach his tummy to paint it easier! When he was on the floor, even lying on my back I couldn't really get to it properly.
So now the plan is to finish everything I can low down on the body, before putting him back on his wheely trolley thing and finishing off his top half, including the flying hares themselves. All before Friday when Mr Giraffe arrives. Woo hoo!
Mad March Hare!
Mar. 11th, 2018 03:04 pmNote to self - never, ever try taking one of these animal sculpture thingies upstairs, ever again.
Me and Paul managed to get Hareport down from the bedroom without knocking the light off the wall, or gouging chunks out of walls, bannisters or our legs, and without damaging his paintwork (apart from a bit of blue rubbed off the tip of an ear) - but man, I'm fecking knackered! My back's killing me. I told Paul I should go on the downside with the hare's legs but he insisted on being the man and take what he thought was the more risky bit (going downstairs backwards), which meant I got the hare's bum. Which was large. And heavy, and bloody difficult to hang onto with small hands and short arms.
Anyhow, I did manage not to drop the hare on Paul's head, so I'll count that as a win. The furniture is all moved around, the upset spiders have been relocated and the dust hoovered up. The hare's now sitting on a wooden box in our living room so I can hopefully now get to his stomach to paint the damn ducks on the river, and Paul is happy because I've managed to arrange the room so he can still see the telly, so he's now esconced in his old man's chair ready to watch the rugby.
Me, I think I might have an old lady nap now. LOL!
Sketchbook and Hare progress
Mar. 6th, 2018 11:07 pmSketchbooking is continuing to be interesting. I also did a one day workshop with the same tutor on mixed media.
Tonight we did minimising the palette and had a choice between full monochrome and a limited palette. I'd meant to have a go at both but ran out of time.
So here's my monochrome, sepia portrait from a stock photo( Read more... )
Hare today...
Feb. 8th, 2018 10:05 amI thought it was about time I did a little progress rerport on my giant sculptures, and my hare painting in particular. I've had him in the bedroom for ages and not really been doing much with him, but I have finally started making progress. Hopefully next week I'll knucke down and finish him off.
( Read more... )I've been chugging away at submitting designs for various sculpture trails all over the country, and now the intital selection results are starting to come in. I've got one penguin design on the Dundee shortlist, and all THREE of my giraffes have been shortlisted for Worcester. Okay, this doesn't mean I'll definitely get any of them commissioned but I might...so when do I start panicking? LOL!!!!

Sketching and bears
Apr. 24th, 2017 08:56 pmNB this post contains nudes of both sexes.
Bhangra bear is coming along, his waistcoat is taking a while but is starting to look how I envisaged it so yay! The combination of paint and acrylic markers is working well, though the markers lose their nib integrity pretty quickly so I'm having to trim them back with scissors.
