I put in five designs for a sculpture trail in Norwich next year, and one has been picked out! So sometime in the next few weeks I'll be taking delivery of a 75kg hare sculpture to paint. I can't remember if I posted about the designs here or not, but the winning design is called Norwich Hareport and features some fairy-winged flying hares.

I'm eyeing up our living room space again and wondering where we are going to put the giant critter, while simultaeously doing random happy dances!

Then tonight in sketchbooking class we studied contrast. We were looking at tone and colour, and I had a go at a wolf in gouache. I was quite pleased how he turned out.
Wolf of contrasts
Must to a sketchbook round up post sometime soon too.

In the meantime, I need to complete three designs for each of the following sculpture trails for next year - a giant robin dressed as Robin Hood for Nottingham's Hoodwinked trail, 7ft tall giraffes for Worcester, and giant penguins for Dundee. Hee hee my life, huh?

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be able to squeeze the hare in somehow - you managed to get the bears and the lion in! However, I'm not so sure about the 7ft giraffes!!

The giraffes could be a little (or a large!) problem to solve - though our house, being old, does have reasonably high ceilings!

HAREPORT. you should have some rabbits flying planes! maybe some nice ww1 open cockpit fighter planes, with hares wearing goggles and those helmets pilots used to wear. how cool, in any case, that they picked one of your designs! and yeah, you fit bears in your house, theoretically a hare, a robin, and a penguin should fit too. a seven-foot giraffe does seem a bit big, tho.

the wolf looks really nice!

Damn, I should have done that, especially as it's the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1 next year...

Send him out for coffee, and then when he gets back pretend it's always been in the middle of the living room ;)

Really? Small world, huh? I used to work in Norwich, commuted every day. I love the city! Were you there long?

Anyhow, apparently my sponsor is Castle Mall so I'm assuming the sculpture will be inside the shopping centre somewhere, though they won't reveal placements until the trail is launched.

I studied at UEA for a year and lived in the university dorm. I didn't get to hang out in the city center much except when I had to work at a Thai restaurant. But hey! Castle Mall is a cool place to have your art. I hope you share pictures :) I'm feeling a bit nostalgic now. *sniffs*
Oh wow, you used to commute there for work every day? I was exhausted just to traveling from UEA to the city center, which is a 25 min ride on a bus! lol

yes, I did that twice - once when I drove every day and worked in an office on Duke Street, and the second time (having learned my lesson about the driving thing) by train when I had to then get a bus to an industrial estate out near the Postwick Park & Ride. It still beat commuting to London! Norwich is so much more civilised LOL.

What did you study? And only a year?
