The thing is – the Winchester brothers were ordinary.

Ordinary kids who were born and brought up into tragedy and learned to deal with it. Ordinary men who lived and died in extraordinary times, and were brought back, over and over, because they were expected to do extraordinary things.

Their pain was real. Their growth and hard-earned wisdom was real. They learned the hard way that they could only rely on each other, that just about every friend they made either betrayed them or died. Their losses were real, their grief was deep and lasting.

They are the heroes of their own story because they turned the ordinary into extraordinary, and because the cost is visible.

No writer should be able to turn around and take that away.

Note to self - never, ever try taking one of these animal sculpture thingies upstairs, ever again.

Me and Paul managed to get Hareport down from the bedroom without knocking the light off the wall, or gouging chunks out of walls, bannisters or our legs, and without damaging his paintwork (apart from a bit of blue rubbed off the tip of an ear) - but man, I'm fecking knackered! My back's killing me. I told Paul I should go on the downside with the hare's legs but he insisted on being the man and take what he thought was the more risky bit (going downstairs backwards), which meant I got the hare's bum. Which was large. And heavy, and bloody difficult to hang onto with small hands and short arms.

Anyhow, I did manage not to drop the hare on Paul's head, so I'll count that as a win. The furniture is all moved around, the upset spiders have been relocated and the dust hoovered up. The hare's now sitting on a wooden box in our living room so I can hopefully now get to his stomach to paint the damn ducks on the river, and Paul is happy because I've managed to arrange the room so he can still see the telly, so he's now esconced in his old man's chair ready to watch the rugby.

Me, I think I might have an old lady nap now. LOL!

I was lucky enough to snag an awesome prompt to pinch hit for in the spn_reversebang - I mean, how could I resist the chance to work with the famous cassiopeia7, or this fabulous and fun picture? :D
R1006 Casaeopia
This is the original prompt - you'll need to visit the art masterpost to enjoy the full glory! (Link coming soon!)

Title: J2’s Excellent Supernatural Adventure
Artist : cassiopeia7
Words : ~6700
Rating : R (for swearing)
Characters/pairing : AU Jensen, AU Jared, with eventual J2 hinted at, Amara, Chuck, Bobby, Rufus
Summary : Across the multiverses, Sam and Dean Winchester’s story has a significance they are blissfully unaware of. In one of those many universes, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are preparing to audition for parts in a brand new show called Supernatural.

A big smoochy thank you to zara_zee and firesign10 for speedy last minute beta jobs! All remaining errors are down to me.

Jensen scanned the script for the umpteenth time. He moistened his lips, a nervous habit he’d never been able to break, then wished he’d remembered to shove some lip balm in his jacket pocket.

Title: Per aspera ad astra
Author: Me!
Movie Prompt: Starman
Pairing: Sam/Jensen
Rating: R
Word Count: ~10800
Summary: An alternative to the last third of Season 3’s Mystery Spot. Months after Dean’s final death in a parking lot in Florida, Sam is on the road hunting the Trickster. The last thing Sam is expecting is a genuine alien encounter, but that is what he gets.

Notes: This spn_cinema story originally landed in my head like the Starman on Earth, in an amorphous but promising form. This is not a straight re-telling of the Starman story with Sam as Jenny and Jensen as the Starman – it’s a SPN interpretation, but hopefully it’s faithful to the spirit of the film, and to SPN!
Per aspera ad astra means ‘through hardship to the stars’.

Acknowledgements: Tons of thanks to jdl71 and dollarformyname for a truly last minute beta job. You guys helped tidy up this mess so much! You are both shining stars. Of course, I added stuff after they did their thing, so all mistakes and suckiness are totally mine.

Paul wanted to know if I'd be doing a picture of my rear end for him - that was a resounding NO! Bwhahahah!
I wanted to try a wet paper technique but my results were far inferior to the ones [personal profile] goss has been doing on dreamwidth's [community profile] drawesome, but it was fun. And I love that I didn't waste a new bit of watercolour paper as I used the back of the piece I'd messed up the other day for the Deep inktober one! LOL

I wasn't sure I could edit the first pic well enough so I started afresh. I think this one is a little more successful. I did have two other goes actually, but the second one went really badly awry in terms of a likeness so that's definitely NOT going anywhere! So this is the one I think I'll get signed.

It's not the final version, I've made his head a bit wider at the back in the shadows, and darkened the background round his face to make it stand out a bit more. I thought I'd try using some pre-printed craft card so I had a ready made background. This is approx 30cm square.

I think it's worked reasonably well. It was quite hard to see what I was doing to start with, but once I got some the layers of pastels down it got easier. It's still a bit long in the face for Wash but I'm not too ashamed of it! LOL

By Jove, I think he's done. Finally! Now I have to varnish him. This bear is being sponsored by a company called Biomass and they've given me some special varnish that is supposed to keep my bear free from bacteria - apparently they are going to go round the trail swabbing bears to show how their product keeps mine so much cleaner! I couldn't find a male superhero-maker on that site so had to mash together Prince Jensen with down-at-heel country boy Jared for dreamweaver37 's birthday!
Bored Prince Jensen of Bunkertania escapes from the tedium of the castle routine and bumps into Jared Padalekitus, poor scholar and seventh son, seeking his fortune. Or something.

Sadly the make a Prince game didn't offer the ability to flip the figures or change the background so I had to do a quick smudge fudge!

Plus I had to have a play with the latest superheroines and made these two kickass girls.

So last night I had a strange little dream. I had a text from someone called Ted who apparently fancied me (heh heh told you it was strange!). I was thinking this Ted was the blond bloke from Hustle (the British version of Leverage), Mark Warren - why, I have no idea as I haven't seen him in anything for years. Anyhow, I was flattered and amused and telling my Mum about this when there was a knock on the front door and this wild hairy man who was (apparently) one of our neighbours wanted to know if some woman from another house down the road could borrow our car parking space. (We live in the town centre so parking is at a premium round here). So I said yes and he was being all grateful and as cute as a tall, thin, wild-haired, bespectacled man can be. And after he walked off, I realised he was Ted the texter. And then I woke up a bit and realised something even funnier - that the tall guy was actually Ben Edlund. So I'd dreamed about Ben Edlund fancying me - which is really bizarre.

Now it's official:
A. Everything comes back to Supernatural
B. Ben Edlund apparently has a penchant for middle aged, vertically challenged Brits
C. My brain is addled.
