I thought it was about time I did a little progress rerport on my giant sculptures, and my hare painting in particular. I've had him in the bedroom for ages and not really been doing much with him, but I have finally started making progress. Hopefully next week I'll knucke down and finish him off.

Here's a couple of general views - he's actually quite hard to photograph in that small space.
Back - with Norwich castle, the guildhall down on the right and at the base, where the white space is now, will be the market stalls

Front - looking very messy!

The flying hares are coming along though - today I gave them their wings!

This one is a bit on the nose LOL

Yesterday I had an email from Lincoln saying they wanted to put my name forward to sponsors for painting an aircraft wing sculpture (not life size!) which will be a trail marker for 100th anniversary of the RAF round Lincoln. I don't know how likely this is to materialise but it's scaring the shit out of me now. We didn't have to put in a design, just a CV and an expression of interest, and whatever goes on the wing will be decided with the sponsor. I've never done anything like that before so I'm panicking a bit! Of course, I might not get selected anyway - all these things are so difficult to plan round as we have no idea if we'll get chosen or not!

Then my fellow critter-painter, Lois, found yet another trail to put in for - owls this time, and in the lovely city of Bath. It's being run by a different organisation, but they've done two trails before, which look like they were successful. So now I'm designing owl ideas... to add to the other trails already submitted. Worst/best case scenario at the moment (pending decisions on commissioning) is I could end up with 2 giraffes, 2 bees, 2 robins, 2 Gromits and now, 2 owls. All due to be painted at the same time. It's just as well my penguin design that was shortlisted didn't make it, and that the snails and snowdogs are on a later timescale.

And still I could end up with nothing (well, apart from Norwich Hareport, of course). It's a bit nutty.

That's so exiting!!!! And they came after you too, which is always nice. I have good feeling about all these creatures, so maybe you need to prepare yourself for a house full of sculptures!

And the hare is looking wonderful; I love that flying hare over his nose :)

They did, but I'm not sure why, because I didn't get a design selected for the Lincoln trail. It's a bit weird, but I'm not complaining!

I wish you could too - Norwich is a beautiful city to visit, and the trail is going to be a lot of fun.

I'm just googling it... wow... it looks fantastic there... I will talk with my hubby about our next vacation in 2019.
There is a castle and I love castles!!!

The castle isn't one of the best inside, it's now a museum and you can't see that much of the Norman keep but the outside is impressive. It was built around the same time as the Tower of London. There are lots of interesting places round Norwich too - and I'm less than an hour away on the train! :D

Did they do the Swans in Bath? If so, they did an excellent job. I actually got to walk around that one! Much to Steve's poor feet's detriment. The Hare is shaping up nicely, I love their little gossamer wings :) Good luck? with the RAF thing, I mean if you want it, but you know you'll do it if they do pick you, right? You'll be fine bb, you are a consummate awesome person, you'll work magic.

Not sure - the two trails they were talking about were pigs and lions. Mmm I wonder if the swans were in Wells. They are kind of famous for swans, aren't they?

And thanks for the vote of confidence!

Indeed, except no baby eating or pokers anywhere they shouldn't be - or did you not mean that one? lol

Go for the RAF thing. That would be a great project to try and so memorable no matter how it goes.

I want to do it - there are so many awesome stories to tell - but at the same time, I worry about doing it justice. But no point in worrying until I actually have the job, right?! :D

I'm very inspired by you!!

my sister is a visual artist. We do not have this explosion of painted animals going on right now in the US as far as I can tell, but i would love for her to able to paint a giant animal (even one would be nice!)

I am confident that if you are handed something to do you will be able to do it. I was in a musical this fall where a volunteer with a full time job painted 32 flats with scenery in just about two weeks. It was a wonder to behold and the flats are gorgeous.

I don't know how people with full time jobs manage to do half the stuff they do - or how I used to fit so much in when I was working full time too! It's a mystery...

I'm sure some cities/towns in the US must be doing similar things - try a web search and see!
