Hare today...
Feb. 8th, 2018 10:05 amI thought it was about time I did a little progress rerport on my giant sculptures, and my hare painting in particular. I've had him in the bedroom for ages and not really been doing much with him, but I have finally started making progress. Hopefully next week I'll knucke down and finish him off.
Here's a couple of general views - he's actually quite hard to photograph in that small space.
Back - with Norwich castle, the guildhall down on the right and at the base, where the white space is now, will be the market stalls
Front - looking very messy!
The flying hares are coming along though - today I gave them their wings!
This one is a bit on the nose LOL

Yesterday I had an email from Lincoln saying they wanted to put my name forward to sponsors for painting an aircraft wing sculpture (not life size!) which will be a trail marker for 100th anniversary of the RAF round Lincoln. I don't know how likely this is to materialise but it's scaring the shit out of me now. We didn't have to put in a design, just a CV and an expression of interest, and whatever goes on the wing will be decided with the sponsor. I've never done anything like that before so I'm panicking a bit! Of course, I might not get selected anyway - all these things are so difficult to plan round as we have no idea if we'll get chosen or not!
Then my fellow critter-painter, Lois, found yet another trail to put in for - owls this time, and in the lovely city of Bath. It's being run by a different organisation, but they've done two trails before, which look like they were successful. So now I'm designing owl ideas... to add to the other trails already submitted. Worst/best case scenario at the moment (pending decisions on commissioning) is I could end up with 2 giraffes, 2 bees, 2 robins, 2 Gromits and now, 2 owls. All due to be painted at the same time. It's just as well my penguin design that was shortlisted didn't make it, and that the snails and snowdogs are on a later timescale.
And still I could end up with nothing (well, apart from Norwich Hareport, of course). It's a bit nutty.

Date: 2018-02-08 03:00 pm (UTC)my sister is a visual artist. We do not have this explosion of painted animals going on right now in the US as far as I can tell, but i would love for her to able to paint a giant animal (even one would be nice!)
I am confident that if you are handed something to do you will be able to do it. I was in a musical this fall where a volunteer with a full time job painted 32 flats with scenery in just about two weeks. It was a wonder to behold and the flats are gorgeous.

Date: 2018-02-08 03:04 pm (UTC)I'm sure some cities/towns in the US must be doing similar things - try a web search and see!
