Because, even though I'm not reading proper books like I used to, I can't resist talking about books!

I might add another question of my own:
Is there any room in your house that doesn't have at least one book in it?
My answer at the moment is yes, currently there are no books in either of our two bathrooms. Otherwise, every room has books.

I took some pics with my iPad when I was in Liverpool the last couple of visits, plus a couple in Shrewsbury.
This was the lovely tree in Liverpool One. Mum got some better photos with her camera but this one gives an impression of it's prettiness.pics under the cut )

I feel like there's too much going on and I can't really help with any of it.

I've submitted my second art for spn_reversebang with a day to spare because tomorrow I'm out all day - taking Mum to Liverpool to see Rachel (my bessie mate) and my aunty Margaret. I confess, I'm really happy with this second piece! I had a lot of fun with it. Can't wait for claims on 26th...and finding out what my authors want to write! Of course it means going through the trauma of the claims process first, but hopefully this time someone will snap up my piccies straight away. LOL

Other good things today - Mum and I went for a walk into town by way of the weir this morning so we could watch the salmon leaping. Of course, every time I saw one jump out of the raging torrent, all I could think of was Salmon!Dean... Sadly, no bears. We did see five salmon though, and survived the pouring rain too. Apparently just ten miles north of us they had a mini hurricane which brought down trees and power lines. Luckily, apart from one strong gust of wind that sent Mum tottering, we saw none of that.

So dreams...How come other people have sexy-times with Jared and Jensen in their dreams and I have - embarrassment? T'ain't fair, y'all!

So my dream went like this.

We were lucky enough to bump into Jared somewhere, in a social situation. So we were sitting in this pub or similar, around a table, chatting to him. Except dizzojay was behaving oddly, and started talking in stalkerish terms with this strange glazed expression, leaning forward and stroking his cheek and hair. He was getting very uncomfortable, trying to turn his back on her, shifting in his chair, but she persisted. It was like one of those slow motion disaster movie sequences, because not only could we see this happening and were cringing inwardly, but of course I had to make it worse!! LOL

For some obscure reason, I had something Jared had written – a book or something dream-logical that didn’t make sense because it was written in sand (shades of GISHWHES perhaps) – and I leaned across waving this thing in his face and asking him loudly why he’d said about being naked i here, and not that we wanted him to be naked, you know, but he did have a fabulous body and…
Oh the embarrassment! Then the dream morphed into something else and that was it.

So not only did I embarrass myself I never got to see Jared naked either!

Meme: Right now

Snaffled from raloria who did this so long ago she's probably forgotten all about it by now!

Right Now I'm...

Feeling: Fine. I’m channelling my inner Dean Winchester/Alec.
Wearing: cycling shorts and a loose racer-back tank because I’m ready for bed and it’s bloody hot. What happened to our traditional British summer of a few days ago – which was cold, cloudy and damp?
Wishing: I had more time! So much to do…
Missing: My dad.
Thinking: I should lose weight and exercise more. I think that a lot, and that is the problem! Action is required…LOL
Wondering: If I’m ever going to get the energy to tidy up my house (but not caring because I’m in Scarborough and miles away from said house), also wondering why there's a helicopter hovering over Scarbrough harbour at 10:20pm. It's not like this is a hotbed of depravity with its three amusement arcades full of stuffed minions...
Raving About: Jensen’s lips. Oh boy, those lips.
Ranting About: Too many things! From selfies and pointless tweeting and computer programmes that don’t work properly, to the USA’s inability to see that their gun laws cause problems, to the sheer unadulterated evil that is ISIS/ISIL and the fact that religion causes more trouble than it does good. Just don’t get me started, ok?
Fangirling/Drooling Over: Jensen and Jared. Always and forever. Though I wouldn’t say no to Tom Hiddleston either.
Thankful For: So many things! Having a lovely tolerant hubby, a great life, a cool Mum, supportive friends (here and elsewhere)… for being a vegetarian while watching Hannibal.
Planning: how to fit in all the big bang and other art I need to do in the next few weeks; also already planning for JIB7 and Rome next year! Photo op emailing is coming up in a couple of weeks…
Looking Forward To: My plans coming to fruition, lots of nice feedback on my art posts that are coming up (this is obviously a hope too!), taking Mum to York tomorrow and so many other things…
Dreading: On a superficial level, getting a duff pass number for JIB7, even though I know I’ve been lucky to get an Angel Pass already. Fundamentally – I dread losing the people I love most.
Wanting: To be happy and healthy, and for everyone else to be happy too.
Hoping: that one day the world will be a better place, that people will grow more tolerant and kind instead of regressing to the pit of prejudice that small minds foster.

I just realised I'd forgotten to pick this up again after the gap! So herewith a wee catchup on the questions.

27th Dec: For havenseptember6 If you could have SPN do a crossover episode with any other tv show, which show would you pick?
I think I'd have to go for Firefly - it would effectively kill two birds with one stone. Firstly it would mean our boys in space - complete with monsters and a spaceship version of the Impala. Plus it would bring Firefly back to the screens where it belongs - and would ensure some great writing for the Winchesters with Josh Whedon on board. Win win!

28th Dec: For emmatheslayer what is your new years eve plans ?
At the moment, on New Year's Day we are going round to see some friends and their kids to sample the dad and middle daughter's baking skills Apparently they are keen to show off, and we are more than happy to indulge! Apart from going to see the Hobbit in the afternoon, New Year's eve will no doubt be spent as usual, in bed at normal time and maybe waking up to listen to the boats on the river hooting their fog horns and fireworks going off. Honestly, I've never been very interested in the whole New Year thing.

29th Dec: For milly_gal What is the one thing you still want to do, desperately have your heart set on doing, fandom or rl or travel plans?
In fandom, one of my long held desires is hopefully coming to pass in May, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan being announced for Asylum 14 - still bouncing everytime I think about that one!
In RL I have wanted to go to Machu Pichu in Peru since I was eleven - I'm not sure when we will be able to fit it in, but I'm still hoping one day it will be possible. In less dream-like terms, I'm planning for us to go to Tokyo in 2020 for the Olympic Games. That one I am determined to make happen, and it feels more feasible too. We will both be getting a lump sum payment maturing that year, and what better way to spend it than a month in Japan? Taking in some amazing sport plus some amazing sights. Oh and it seems I did a post in advance to confuse myself - if you want to compare countries you've visited with my map -
here you go!
amberdreams: (Bum)
Oops I missed a day again! So this is a twofer.

First yesterday's for matchboximpala - What stresses you out?

septembers_coda Wanted to know who was my favorite child character ever, in any fandom?

Supernatural is my first real "fandom", so I'll have to talk books instead, especially as the tv shows I've been in love with before SPN didn't really have any children in that I can think of (Babylon 5, Firefly, Stargate Atlantis, Alias Smith and Jones, Star Trek...oh, unless you count Wesley, but though I liked him he wasn't a fave character).

I've been wracking my brain for child characters and when I started putting this post together I still wasn't sure who would end up top of my list.

I'd have said Arya Stark straight off, except I am still too dischuffed about what dear George has done to her in the last couple of books - I barely recognised the feisty little girl who charmed the socks off me in Book 1, so I couldn't bring myself to put her top of my list. Lyra Belaqua is a great character, but I didn't really like her all that much, even while I understood her very well. So I looked a bit farther back and remembered one of my childhood heroes, Harry Wharton, from Frank Richards' Magnet comics. I imagine most of you will never have heard of him or the comics, though you might have heard of Billy Bunter. The Magnet was a weekly comic (narrative-based not cartoons) that ran from the early 1900s to around the 1940s, with stories about Greyfriars public school. I had a real thing about reading those. The bulk of the stories featured the Remove Form, who were about 14-15 year olds. Frank was an orphan, one of those upright, noble chaps with a fiery temper who always tried to do the right thing. There was also a bad boy character in that series who I had a soft spot for, Herbert Vernon Smith, also known as The Bounder. He was the rebel with a good heart, he smoked and gambled and often saved the day in spite of himself. I used to write fanfiction about these characters without knowing that was what it was!

But then I thought some more, and if I stretch the definition of a child character to teenagers, I think I can go for Lord Alexand DeKoven Woolf (with a side order of Rich, his little brother) from M K Wren's The Phoenix Legacy. At the start of the books Alexand is about 16 or17, while his brother is 12-14. Alexand has so many of the qualities I love in a hero - he's fiercely loyal, he's intelligent and thoughtful, he loves hard and strong with everything he's got, he has utter trust in his brother, he's flawed and makes mistakes, he's willing to sacrifice his life and happiness for the greater good.

Yup, I do have a pattern in the characters I fall in love with...

Today has been a very tiring day but strangely productive in spite of nearly broken down trains and me being me. I had to get up really early (5.30am) so I could wash my hair before getting the 06:28 train to London for today's 9am meeting. Having built in so much wriggle room I was actually 40 minutes early but it would have been sod's law to have been late had I got a later train so...

I think I saw someone else doing this one but most recently I stole it from Gaelicspirit.

The rules:

1. People who have been tagged write the answers on their blog and replace any question they dislike with a new, original question.
2. Tag eight people. Don't tag who tagged you.

If anyone wants to play, feel free because I am not tagging (yes I know, I'm a rebel) but I left the rules in in case people want to do it properly.

1. Make a list of 5 things that you see without getting up.

A half eaten punnet of blueberries, my hubby,  a badger with a peace scarf,  an iron age sword in its scabbard and an autographed picture of Ewan McGregor at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.  (I should probably just have said – a mess, that would have covered it…)

2. How do you Style your hair?

Shoulder length, middle parting of sorts and a fringe.  Not so much styled as left to fend for itself.

3. What are you wearing now?

Purple sweats, pink Fat Face thin fleece top, dark green fleecy jacket (it’s chilly in here, hubby’s economising)

4. What do you hear right now?

Hubby shouting at Liverpool FC to get their fingers out and score a goal before hey get knocked out of the UEFA Cup….

5. What is/was for dinner?

Pizza with cherry tomatoes,  blueberries for afters

6. What did you do today?

Finished a short schmoop SPN story, faffed about on Facebook, read some FF on LJ, went to lunch at the veggie café down the road and read some more FF, did a couple of hours work on exam papers, went to pick up the car from its annual service, did some food shopping in town.

7. Dog person or cat person?

More of a guinea pig person really.  But would rather have a dog than a cat as long as it didn’t bark.

8. If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?

I didn’t change my name when I got married, I ain’t gonna start now.

9. What was the last thing you bought?

A tub of maple and pecan ice cream, some grapes, 2 raspberry jellies.

10. Favorite band/musician?

Too too hard.  If really pushed, The Beatles, though they aren’t on my current playlist

11. Favorite book?

Lord of the Rings

12. What are you doing this weekend?

I’m playing hockey on Saturday, hope to see my friend Carrie who’s recovering from an operation to have her knee replaced.  Nothing much else planned.

13. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?

I used to want to play the violin so I could play Mendelson’s violin concerto.  I was crap at it though, when I tried at school.  Now I might go for the cello…

14. How are you?

I always say fine – yes I am Dean Winchester!

15.What are you doing tomorrow?

I’m planning to go to the gym first thing, then do some work and revision as I am being assessed for my subject knowledge as an examiner tomorrow afternoon – eek!

16.What are you looking forward to the most?

At the moment, I’d have to say – going to Rome for the JIB convention - and that is on both counts – the convention (which afterall once you are in the hotel and it has started could be anywhere) and Rome because I love it, and haven’t been for ten years or so.
