Today has been a very tiring day but strangely productive in spite of nearly broken down trains and me being me. I had to get up really early (5.30am) so I could wash my hair before getting the 06:28 train to London for today's 9am meeting. Having built in so much wriggle room I was actually 40 minutes early but it would have been sod's law to have been late had I got a later train so...

The workshop went well, I decided to get some pasta before heading home and had a very nice penna with aubergines and tomato sauce. I love the new hop-on hop-off buses on the #11 route; it reminds me of being a kid back home, plus it's fun watching people doing the dithering about whether to risk jumping off the back when the bus pauses at traffic lights or in jams.

Anyhow, I got the 2pm train home, and we were only 12 minutes late after stopping just outside Chelmsford - the driver walked down outside the train to fix the fault (I wonder if he hit it with a hammer like when that happened last time...so funny!). I finished off the workshop notes on the train and when I got home but more remarkable than that - I read a freaking BOOK!  Yes, real paper, old fashioned book.  Old book too, trust be told as I've had this copy since 1975. Um. Red Shift by Alan Garner.  It was de-nugis's reverse bang she did for me that prompted me to dig it out and read it again because her fic reminded me of this. Garner's book has that same disjointed, dream-like feel that intrigues you, mystifies you but doesn't stop you being totally engaged with the characters.

So anyway, I had a couple of hours to sort myself out then I was off out again to the film theatre to see the live-cast of Tom Hiddleston in Coriolanus, streamed from the Domnar theatre. Fan-bloody-tastic.  Literally, when it comes to the blood. I think they'd taken to heart Coriolanus' mother's speech near the start, where she says blood "more becomes a man. Than gilt his trophy...". Guess she was a Hurt/Comfort fan then! Tom was storming, he has this knack of softening his voice and still really punching out the emotion but added to that, for the shallow amongst us - he looked HOT. Mmm lovely broad shoulders and tapered waist and tight pants showing off his very gorgeous derriere and he even stripped off his top to show his wounds and had a shower on stage, spraying bloody water around...

What more could a girl wish for? What? Oh, yes, let's see. He got kissed by his enemy Aufidius, and there were some very slashy speeches from Mark Gatiss who was playing his old friend and mentor Menenius. So. There you have it. I'm now hoping they will release it on DVD...

Added for my own benefit...

I cannot WAIT to see Coriolanus. I couldn't find it playing anywhere here, so I hope they do release it. Judging from all the promo pics I've seen, it sounds like it was just what it said on the tin! *jealous*

It was really well done - with a small stage, minimal props and virtually no scenery (they used ladders, a wall with graffiti and a few chairs and other wise a bare space) they created some fierce atmospheric drama! I really hope they will DVD it.

I saw the live broadcast too and it was great! I really liked the cast (Tom <333), but more than that I really loved the set and atmosphere they created. It was a great interpretation of the play, imo :)

It was, wasn't it! I thought the staging and use of minimal props actually made the play really.
