I'm visiting my mum at the moment to celebrate her 84th birthday, and today we had a day out in Hereford. We picked the right day - after a cloudy, misty start the sun came out and so the various stained glass windows in the cathedral were shown off to their advantage. Plus in the afternoon, a choir and orchestra were rehearsing for their evening concert, so we were treated to some totally appropriate music while looking round.

Here's a vid to demonstrate.

When my photos decide to upload to Flickr I'll do a little picspam. Yep, I bet you can't wait, huh?

Thanks so much to chellexxx for posting this gem - I walked down Penny Lane past that barber shop for Rachel's wake and though I have no desire to go home to Liverpool, I needed to post this here so I can rewatch when I need to. Seeing how happy he made everyone at the Phil at the end, and hearing Hey Jude - yeah. Tears, lots of tears through the smiles.

I had to laugh when he signed that Penny Lane street sign - I bet that's gone by now! Think how much someone could get for it on eBay! LOL

Put your playlist on shuffle then select your theme songs as follows:

  1. Your funeral song

  2. Your Battle song

  3. Your Victory song

  4. Your Wedding song

  5. The song you will die to.

1. Funeral song - Goodbye to the Girl by David Cook. How bizarrely appropriate (in the title at least!! LOL)

2 Battle song - No Excuses by NEEDTOBREATHE. Okay, not very battleworthy but probably fair.

3. Victory song - The Other Side by The Proclaimers. Heh! That'll do!

4. Wedding Song - Keeping Your Head Up by Birdy. Not sure about this one as I don't think Paul would like it, but never mind. He'll just have to put up with it, like he's done for the last 38 years, poor boy. It was actually our 34th wedding anniversary on 3rd March.

5. Song to die to - Barbies by P!nk. Aw, sad... I'd have to substitute Action Girl for a Barbie though, as I never had one and thought they were cissy.

What a great concert! If you get the chance, go see this guy live: if anything the sound is even better live than on his studio recordings. But bloody hell, Brixton. I was fucking ashamed of that crowd. We were on the balcony and 99% of the people down in the mosh pit were talking LOUDLY right the way through the whole concert. So FUCKING RUDE! It's totally beyond me. why do people pay for tickets to go to gigs that they clearly have no interest in?
Anyhow, block out the constant chatter and just listen to that vocal on this chap's recording from last night.

I'm in Germany, folks. My knowledge of the language can be written on the back of a postage stamp, but at least I know schinken is ham.

Day 5 - a song that needs to be played loud.

Well Verdi's Dies Irae has to be dialed up to 11, for sure. So loud you can feel those timpani in your sternum and all the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Day 4

This one is nigh on impossible because I am VERY good at forgetting - I forget things I want to remember, so there's not much chance of remembering a person I've actually tried to erase from my mind.
So what to do? Then JJ reminded me of a nasty pair of people I worked with in London, and that led me to thinking about a guy who also worked there who introduced me to the Stone Roses when we were in the same office in Ipswich back in the early 90s, and voila! I have my song for the day.

My song with a number (well, several, actually!), in honour of Tom Robinson who we saw on stage yesterday singing this very song with Martyn Joseph and Steve Knightley...

He looks a bit older now... LOL

Stolen from dugindeep...

Here's the meme:

and here's my song with a colour (black is all colours combined, after all). This is still one of my all time favourite Keane songs; it's so haunting.

I woke up to the news of 19 young people killed at a concert in Manchester arena. I'm feeling sick to my stomach and saddened beyond words, so I'm posting a chunk of last night's utterly magical concert as an antidote to sadness and the horrible, wrong and sometimes downright evil that people can do.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of the murdered, and to those injured.

amberdreams: (Bum)

milly_gal and jj1564 posted this and now I'm going to have to do the meme but I can't let it go as it is, because it's wrong on two counts, so here's the meme corrected. (Argh and sorry(not sorry)!)

A Musical Acrostic (note, not a pseudonym!)

Emphasis - Sleeping at Last
River (The) - Tom Chaplin
Dance me to the end of love - Leonard Cohen

I may be a little obsessed with this Richard Shindell song since hearing Show of Hands do their version last weekend.

Dunno why this vid doesn't credit Mr Shindell but this is definitely his version.

And guess what, it reminds me of the Winchesters.

Finally uploaded - yay! This is a drive by share as I need to toddle down to Misha's panel - the room is half empty and there are hardly any people queuing for questions, it's kind of surreal. I asked Jared and Jason two questions in the end because so few people were lining up it was embarrassing!
Anyhow hope you enjoy this - Jailbreak with Jensen, Rob, Tim, Richard, Jason and the inimitable Laura from JIB staff.

By the way, I just spoke to Jason at the autos about the concert and asked how much rehearsing they'd done because it was so flippin' slick, and he said they discussed it at 2pm that afternoon and worked it out from there. Incredible.

1. Put your music player on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question.

Put your music player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs.
Post the poem that results.
The first line of the twenty-first song is the title.

This is my word

Another stop sign, another headlight
I’m staring at tears on the pages.
Drowning in you, asking nothing, aching,
If I said I was sorry would you forget the things I’ve done?

No, you don't have to wear your best fake smile
The branches have traded their leaves for white sleeves
I’ve waited a hundred years
I’ve been left out alone like a damn criminal.

Winding your way down on Baker Street
Oh quiet down, I've had enough
Drifting apart, getting harder to hold you
I’ll take you with me over the water,

Killed by drones
Oh I think I landed in a world I hadn’t seen.

If you're not the one for me,
Guess it's true, I'm not good at a one-night stand.
I've got a really bad disease
Put your coat on, this city trembles.

I will leave my heart at the door
Sleepless nights and endless days.

Been away for a couple of days in London with my Austrian friend Renate (met via SPN, JIB and GISHWHES as are all the best people, huh?). We were down to see Andrew Scott, David Dawson and Joanna Vanderham in The Dazzle in a temporary theatre in an abandonned art school right next to Foyles bookshop, a tour of BBC Broadcasting house and an evening enjoying The Station Breaks (aka Rob Benedict and Jason Manns) and Paul Carella at the Borderline. Oh and this morning before home-time I squeezed in a visit to Somerset House and the free Tintin exhibition.

So have a two day pic&vid spam. And apologies for the lack of a cut! I thought I'd done one...
