Rockwood - a convention with a difference

I'm in Germany, folks. My knowledge of the language can be written on the back of a postage stamp, but at least I know schinken is ham.
The Rockwood Festival calls itself a music festival but really it's a musical convention. Yesterday was the first day, well, evening really, as it didn't start until 5:30pm. We had the opening, JIB-style, with all the guests hopping on stage with varying levels of enthusiasm (Osric, I'm look in at you!), and that was followed by a cocktail party round table speed-dating affair, during which we had a varying amount of time to chat a bit with pairs (or singles) of the guests. In between times, each of the guests took a turn onstage to give us a sample of their musical talents. Which was great, except the sound was so loud conversation had to stop which obviously meant some guest-chats were somewhat brief or inaudible, if you weren't sitting next to the person.
Still, I got to enthuse about Japan with Steve from Louden Swain, talk a little bit to Gil about jet lag and whether this was a convention format he liked (he does), check out the photo of his little girl's new hat (cute) and give Jason Manns grief about his damn beard. Sitting next to Gil (because I'd moved seats by that point after three people on our table left early) demonstrated that yep, you really needed to be close or you missed too much of what they were saying.
By that point in the evening, most guests had been warned about
herminekurotowa's herbal liquor and settled for sniffing it. Apparently Briana had been telling everyone about it and was chagrined that she'd had a sample but Rob hadn't. Hermine insisted it was necessary - dutch courage for the later karaoke. Bohemian Rhapsody, by the way, which actually went down a treat. Briana and Rob enjoyed that one.
Ok I'm not going to ramble on much longer, I'll just add a couple of vids for flavour.
First
herminekurotowa,
dean_hugs_sammy and Stephanie belting out a bit of Queen with Briana.
Next, Rob Benedict ending the karaoke with Carry On My Wayward Son sans music and sans lyrics LOL
Today doesn't start till 3pm (for us) so we are planning a lazy day. And probably more sleeping as we didn't get back to our hotel until nearly 1pm last night.
