Stolen from dugindeep...

Here's the meme:

and here's my song with a colour (black is all colours combined, after all). This is still one of my all time favourite Keane songs; it's so haunting.

Last night just before going to bed, three men drove a white van into a bunch of people on London Bridge, then jumped out of the van and started stabbing people who were enjoying a night out at restaurants and bars on the South Bank. So far there are six people dead and many badly injured.

Finally caught up with this season so I can now say - how beautifully filmed it was. Was this why ash48 liked it so much, I wonder? Watching the finale, the colours and the lighting of so many scenes, especially the interrogations, was like a Carravagio painting at times. It was visually compelling.

Not so sure about the story - it didn't grip my heart and mind like the first season did, but it was still tense and worth watching.

Anyone on here watch it?

This is probably too much for a Sunday morning but thanks to ash48 posting this article on Facebook about American democracy and the rise of dictatorships, I'm here, musing again. I mused on FB too but then I thought it was probably a bit much over there, so I'm moving my musing to it's proper home. LOL

This article is very interesting if not also a little (no a lot) scary. it postulates (ala Plato) that too much democracy, too much equality, leads to the rise of tyranny. Of course, if you look at history, you can see how this has played out in different civilisations at different times. Not necessarily out of democratic government bases but where there have been similar sets of circumstances. The Roman Republic and the rise of the Imperial system, for one.

Part of me wants to scoff at the thought that there can be such a thing as too much freedom while another part is nodding - yeah, I can see this. Too much freedom can lead to chaos and anarchy. There have to be rules, people need guidelines or the strong will trample the weak because they can. But ack, I want the middle ground to succeed! Is there no real middle ground that allows tolerance to thrive without leading to Plato's blackest outcomes?

This might sound weird, but this morning, Alex Salmond was on the radio, talking about Donald Trump, and something he mentioned made me pause. He was talking about meeting Trump many times in the past when the Orange Man came over to do business in Scotland. Putting aside how well or otherwise that business went, Salmond mentioned that Trump then was a paid up Democrat, a Clinton supporter and showed no evidence of the most outrageous opinions he expressed during the campaign. (He was still disgustingly sexist but that's another matter).

Salmond mused that he wasn't sure if it was a good or bad thing to think that all of the anti muslim, anti Mexican racist bollocks, together with most of the radical and obnoxious views Trump spouted during the last few months, were in fact things he truly believed in, or lies said to garner free publicity and get the most ignorant and fearful voters onside.

Shades of Brexit again, actually - given that the likes of Boris Johnson and Michael Gove didn't actually think their campaign would win and said what they did in order to further their own personal agendas...

BUT. If Trump was lying (and we all know he's an inveterate fibber without any scruples), that conversely gives me some hope for the future. If he didn't really believe in that idiotic wall, exporting immigrants, banning Muslims, criminalising abortion etc etc then perhaps he won't follow through.

I don't know. He's going to have a lot of explaining to do to all the Trump supporters who thought those things were aces if he doesn't now make them happen. But still. A tiny morsel of hope gleaming amongst the steaming pile of shit.

I think I am starting to get to grips with drawing Jensen/Dean.  I had another go today for my spn_gen big bang art for poetartist, and I think it almost worked.  I reckon I've made his nose and face too fine and narrow but otherwise it isn't too bad.  The trouble is, he's kind of so pretty, it's hard to get the combination of features right without missing something that makes him recognisable as Jensen and not just a bland pretty face.

I can't post that pic yet of course but I wanted to get this off my chest, having done two drawings of the man in the last few days.

Oh I can share the other one I did though - it's for my friend Ana's birthday, so I hope she likes it.  It wasn't that successful but there you go, it's done now.  I better not look at it anymore because all I can see is everything that is awry and that's just depressing!  And that is after I sepia-fied it in GIMP to try and make it look a bit sexier.  Ana is getting a print and the original drawing, lucky girl ha ha ha!

"We do what we gotta do. And we get my brother back."  Which is great until you realise Dean was talking to the brother in question at the time, and then it just becomes one more glaring indicator of how messed up our Winchesters really are....

Initial impressions on first watch - this one didn't blow me away with its WOW factor so much as previous episodes have, but there was a lot of good stuff in it all the same, and a fair bit to keep up the interest!

For instance - Crowley can find them, just like that.  Used to be that they could conceal themselves from Demons and Angels alike so either they have stopped bothering, or Crowley as King of Hell can somehow get round stuff even Lucifer had difficulty with last season, or the Apocalypse-that-wasn't has left the universe out of whack and this is another symptom of that.  Whichever it is it is slightly ominous....

Heart clenching moments were scattered around like confetti - Dean staring at Lisa's name on his phone again; Dean saying to Sam "I'm working for a demon and I don't even know who you are.";

Sam saying to Dean “I’m gonna prove to you that I am still your brother” only to come flat out with “I don’t care about you, except that I need your help” and Dean’s expression as that particular knife slides in…

So it seemed to me that this episode was not so much a filler as a scene setter – having laid out a few ground rules last week, this week was demonstrating how it was going to work – for instance, Dean restraining Sam who was all – let’s ice the monster now, while Dean was – no, we make sure before we had him over to a lifetime of demon-rape.  Dean acting as Sam’s humanity, Sam’s conscience.  And I would worry far more about Sam and any potential future if Sam wasn’t taking notice of what Dean is telling him.  So far, at least, when Dean has said stop, Sam hasn’t gone off on his own and ignored his brother – which the old Sam might have done (and did do when it came to Ruby).  So there is some hope for him yet.

Though what damage this is going to do to Sam  - when he is whole again, knowing while his soul was absent he was acting as a ruthless, heartless cold killer… It will be like Dean’s experiences of breaking in Hell all over again, having to live with what you have done as well as what has been done to you…

On a lighter note – I couldn’t help laughing at the bedroom scene when Dean wakes up and says it’s creepy that Sam’s been awake all night watching him!  Dean got a couple of good one liners again – like “do you think he came for the sailing?” and I have to say both Dean and Sam were looking totally hot – I shall be in screen cap heaven…

For the rest, the dog was cute and scary at the same time, the skinwalker tried to do the right thing and got shafted (and I really hope the mother regrets treating him so badly when she has time to reflect, as he did save her and her son’s lives).

I wonder now – if the boys killed the Skinwalker alpha, what happens to all those sleeper cells, and given that they are apparently some sort of kind to werewolves, will the Werewolf Alpha now be gunning for the Winchesters in revenge?
And I loved Fat Mack's angry pig!!!

Had 3 hours sleep thanks to live streaming... all I can say is:

The Hollow Land of Broken Men

So this was the way that Dean Winchester’s world finally ended.  With a knock on the door of the beautiful woman he loved, a delighted hug from the kid he still thought of, somewhere deep down inside, as his own.  In any other circumstances, this should have felt like a warrior’s homecoming after the obligatory ticker-tape parade, but this loss was too deep, too raw.  Too uniquely his.

He was alone in a way that Lisa could see and could understand, but was helpless to fix.

The four horsemen’s rings had ripped out the better part of him.

Sometime later

Outside, not touching the edge of warm yellow light that pooled around the small house, Sam watched as his brother sat down to eat at Lisa’s table.  Ben was talking animatedly, Dean smiled indulgently.  A touching scene of domesticity that spoke to Sam of a vow fulfilled.

He took a tentative step forward. Dean’s presence was a magnet, drawing him with a promise of comfort, love, understanding.  He hesitated for a moment, then nodded, decision made in an instant.  Dean deserved his chance at a normal life.  He’d earned it.

Heart aching, Sam slipped silently away into the shadowy night.

a double drabble in 2x100 words precisely thanks to the scene break,  I am now off to Birmingham to meet with resurrected Bobby, caged Lucifer and a whole load of dead people.......Asylum 4 here I come - pity God won't be there though.
