Lisbon and other things

Hi darlings, I'm back from Lovely Lisbon and found that this had been posted on Twitter while I was away. So I've uploaded it to Youtube. I'm sure there'll be multiple copies on there but I couldn't find one.
Back to the holiday weekend! It was hotter in England than Portugal, which is just nutty, but it was still blooming hot enough for me. Our apartment looked really run down from the outside, and was opposite one of those tiny shops that sell everything, and had some very dodgy blokes hanging round outside from 11am till midnight - but the inside was really nice and airy. Not that we spent much time there, what with birthday celebrations and sightseeing, and of course, eating.
Here's a small picspam to whet your appetites for a visit one day -
quickreaver I'm looking at you! I'm certainly planning to return, as three days wasn't anywhere near enough time to see everything.
One of Paul's photos of me in the castle - nice to see the warning after we'd walked all round the scary high walls with no guard rails... LOL

The SPN gang (apart from Paul, who's nothing to do with SPN, just tall compared to us midgets!)

Exploring when you have at least four of us who like to be "the one in charge" is interesting, to say the least. Still, we didn't fight, and still like each other so that's good!
Lisbon is famous for its tiles - but there is also a lot of grafitti. Some of it's rather good and fun.

We saw some fabulous ones from the train on the way to Belem but sadly I couldn't get a decent picture.
However, a lot of photos were taken - by everyone of everything and everyone!

The famous pastel de nata and a rare sighting of the lesser spotted smiling Paul.

Lisbon is very pretty, but also very steep and hilly! Which is epsecially interesting when two of our party have mobility issues - Steph is waiting for a knee operation on a fractured meniscus and Wendy has lupus. Thank goodness for the trams, metro, elevators... though we still walked c20k steps a day (Ang has a fitbit).
A view from the castle, over the River Tagus out to sea. the big square is where we were in the three photos above.

The Elevador Santa Justa next to the ruins of the Carmo convent museum, taken from the castle - we did manage to get over there the next day to check it out close up. And yes, we did stand on that top platform, and got the lift down.
If anyone is likely to go to Lisbon any time, I'd recommend buying the Lisbon card as you can use all public transport and save your feet a lot of grief. Plus things like this lift are also free.

In fact, here is the lift, close up.

Day out number 1 - Belem
This is the Jerónimos Monastery - and Paul getting photobombed by Angela. Or maybe it was the other way round...

Now I'd better get on with uploading the remaining photos to Flickr, where they will reside for posterity and to assist my failing memory. If you are interested, you can view a ton of pretty scenery in an album over there, being photobombed by various fangirls and one non-fanboy.

Date: 2018-07-24 01:27 pm (UTC)Lisbon is really interesting and most of the natives were very jolly too - chatty, friendly and laughing a lot - which was a nice bonus. I definitely want to go back to see more!

Date: 2018-07-25 03:23 pm (UTC)I have a friend who lives in Barcelona and her partner is from just outside of Lisbon, and I've always wanted to go for a visit. It's looks like a vibrant and interesting city with lots to see :)
