Spoilers ahoy - obviously.

I haven't seen too many spoilers for either the ending or any future epsiodes, and am trying to remain spoiler-free, so please keep any comments to pure speculating and don't even tell me what's in the trailer for next week - thanks, folks!

The thing is – the Winchester brothers were ordinary.

Ordinary kids who were born and brought up into tragedy and learned to deal with it. Ordinary men who lived and died in extraordinary times, and were brought back, over and over, because they were expected to do extraordinary things.

Their pain was real. Their growth and hard-earned wisdom was real. They learned the hard way that they could only rely on each other, that just about every friend they made either betrayed them or died. Their losses were real, their grief was deep and lasting.

They are the heroes of their own story because they turned the ordinary into extraordinary, and because the cost is visible.

No writer should be able to turn around and take that away.

I thought I'd jot a few thoughts down straight away, before I read other people's reactions.

Spoilers ahoy! )

Though there were parts of the episode I enjoyed, even those parts had annoying and inconsistent elements - like Dean taking Jack out to show him the world.

Ok. I'm going to write an insta-reaction post because the thoughts I had about episodes 1 and 2 never made it to paper (or screen). Waiting to mull things over and have a second watch before splurging here clearly doesn't work.

What did I get from this one?

It was better than last week (thankfully), and tracking back over the credits I see it was a Bobo Berens script so that explains why. However.

Some negative thoughts follow (and spoilers, obviously).

Just a quick few comments - while I was watching I kind of enjoyed most of it, but there were distracting stupid things that didn't need to be there, and took me out of the flow. And when I saw the writing was The Terrible Two, I understood why.

So this is more about the things that annoyed me than the things I liked - so please don't read if negative feedback spoils your squee!

Here goes:

Here be SPOILERS for this episode )

I watched first thing this morning - got to say I really enjoyed it but due to having domestic chores (shock horror) and the need to undercoat my otter and giant duck, and the fact I'm off out to dinner with Paul and a friend tonight, I only have one comment.

I get the feeling Mr Ketch is becoming a Ketch all for the writers...see what I did there? LOL!

Christ on a cracker! Just watched Sherlock episode 2 and THAT'S why this show is made of win. Awesome trippy, fantastically twisty FUN! Now I can happily forget all about epsiode 1 because really, that was a complete waste of time. Everything I needed was packed into 90 quality minutes .... SPOILERS (mainly for Episode 1)....

Public service announcement - this is a completely feelings driven reaction, don't expect in depth analysis! Or sense.

Up front - I enjoyed this one but ... there's always a but.

For everything I was thinking and couldn't express anywhere near as well, read indiachick's reaction. Then append it with my ugly sobbing over the ending, because for some reason that scene with Dean, Sam and Mary kind of broke me. And even though I totally felt for both Dean and Mary, it was Sam's face that cracked my hard shell.

Is it just me or is Jared totally knocking this season out of the park?

Yeah, so there was that.
