Spoilers ahoy - obviously.
Ok - this was a better episode. It kept my attention all the way through, even when Sam and Dean weren't on screen. I actually enjoyed Cas and Jack's case investigation. It was about people, and the acting and writing made me care about what happened to those people, plus it didn't play the two of them solely for laughs. Thankfully it moved quickly from the upside down novice FBI schtick to showing them both being competent at what they were doing. So that was good, old school SPN, really, albeit Winchester-lite. We had an investigation that provided a lesson for the investigators, and wasn't too clunky in doing it - Castiel's testament was moving, his found family story rang true and Misha's acting was on a par with his better days. Which, fair enough, this episode finally gave him some decent material to work with, both in terms of storyline and the emotional impact. It still begs the question about his angel powers fluctuating so wildly, but it was easy to go with the flow when he healed the girl's fingers and disarmed the daughter.
And I did like Jack's scene with Cas in the truck (where's Castiel's Pimpmobile gone?). I loved that he went from scared child to determined demi-god in the space of a few words. Alex Calvert is GOOD.
Oh and Dr Sexy! That actor made a good pastor 😁
But (and you knew there was a but coming, didn't you) where was Sam in this episode? Why is he being reduced to an accessory all the time? I'm the biggest Dean girl and was very happy he had his moment with Amara - that was a good scene, well acted - but I want my Sam in the mix, being badass, clever, KEY to the damn story. Not just there to look tall and pretty and be a foil for Dean.
If this had been just one episode sidelining Sam, then I wouldn't even have noticed, but the rest of the season so far hasn't given me much hope that future episodes will see this balanced out.
Hey ho. We're nearly at the end now, and the stage is set for Jack the Bomb (remember Dean the Bomb?). Speculating here, but it would be nice if Cas did find another way - maybe Jack and Cas combine and absorb God and Amara, and form a new wiser cosmic entity.
I haven't seen too many spoilers for either the ending or any future epsiodes, and am trying to remain spoiler-free, so please keep any comments to pure speculating and don't even tell me what's in the trailer for next week - thanks, folks!

He was missing from the last 15mins and could have been cut from the scenes he was in, and we wouldn't have noticed.
