Season 15 Episode 3 insta reaction

I thought I'd jot a few thoughts down straight away, before I read other people's reactions.
My main takeaway from this one was feeling bad that I couldn't care less about Rowena's death. That scene with Sam in the crypt, which was supposed to be so emotional, actually made me laugh. Then I felt bad that I was so unmoved when Jared was clearly putting so much effort into Sam's raw pain at being asked to do this. Then I felt bad for all the actors who were doing their best with this mediocre material.
The episode wasn't as boring as last week's, but only marginally so. It totally failed to make me feel anything. Well, anything but mild annoyance that Cas killed Belphagor so easily (with his minor angel reduced powers too), when Belphagor had just powered himself up and should have been virtually unstoppable. The inconsistencies and patchiness of the plotting is distracting, and the lack of depth to any character is a total turn off. The only moment I felt anything was the tiny scene in Sam's room near the end, and that was cut short in order to have what was clearly meant to be a hugely weighty scene between Dean and Cas. Which was also annoying, because there was zero chemistry between Jensen and Misha in that scene, and all I was thinking when Cas said he would go his own way was 'about bloody time, mate'.
Pretty much the same thought went through me head when Ketch got his heart ripped out. And that incident was only mildly interesting as the set up for the A-named disposable demon to find out the plans about the horn/crook - which was another throw-away pointless plot device. One among many.
Amended to add - actually I'm BUMMED they killed of Alex's Belphagor so soon. He was the only good thing about this season so far.
I can see potential fun storylines with Soul Power Rowena as the new Queen of Hell (the rate they are getting through major demons she wouldn't have much opposition even without the souls) and maybe Ketch as her side kick enforcer, but this writing team lack the imagination to follow through on such tasty possibilities.
So I suppose what I can take away from this week is that yes, I'm still glad this is the final season and I'm losing hope that this writing team will be able to deliver anything decent as the boys' swan song. If only they put half as much effort into getting some of the past writers back for this season as they have into the grab-bag of returning (and 90% pointless) characters...
And it would appear I had more to say than I expected!

AGREE. I was really enjoying him and he had such interesting potential. Why would they dispatch him so quickly and easily?? AARGH.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine they're going to do anything with that, but maybe we'll at least get some good fanfic out of it. I'm already itching to write some about her as Queen of Hell, myself. And Ketch as her enforcer is a BEAUTIFUL idea which I might steal (with credit!), if you don't mind.

Same. I thought after last season's finale that they were going to shake things up and go in interesting directions, but this season is not shaping up well so far.

Date: 2019-10-26 02:29 pm (UTC)Rowena's death while a bit surprising that at it came so early was... meh. I just didn't feel it.
Belphgor was the most fun and interesting thing (outside of the WInchesters) for me and he was cut down before he could actually do anything like Demon Den and Michael!Dean were. I wonder if there some rule that says they can only stick around for three episodes?
I never wanted Ketch back to begin with. I loved his death at the hands of Mary to save Dean. I would actually have been more okay with them keeping him as 'good twin Alex' (or what ever his name was) then maybe I would have felt bad that he died protecting Sam & Dean. As it was I'm just hoping that this time the death sticks.
I completely agree about the ending with Sam and Dean in Sam's room and the scene with Casstiel and Dean. The only other thing I would add besides "about bloody time' would be "Mmmm yummy" cause Dean/Jensen looked so delicious in that single layer henely.
