May. 29th, 2020 09:41 pmI bought some (more) new watercolours - I have poor impulse control while watching artists on Youtube videos. I think I now have sufficent supplies of watercolours, sketchbooks and paper to last the rest of my life. I need to find a young artist to bequeath my supplies to...

Stay Inside Photo Scavenger Hunt
Apr. 11th, 2020 10:06 pmDay 1 Myself

I just tried some lilac colour drops this morning - I kinda like it!
yourself (disguised enough that you're comfortable sharing the photo) | your favorite book (we won't tell any of the others you picked a favorite) | merchandise from a fandom (pick your definition of fandom--sports 100% qualify) | your exercise equipment | the view out a window |
something alive | a meal | a letter/postcard from someone (feel free to redact) | something that keeps you sane | your computer |
a useful tool | memorabilia from an event outside | wild card | a game you've been playing | a musical instrument |
something someone made for you | a gift you're planning to give | an outfit you've worn recently (with or without you inside it) | something that makes you smile | the kitchen sink |
something unexpected | something funny | a bad habit | a good habit | something you're proud of |

GISH 2019 - my efforts!
Aug. 5th, 2019 12:27 pmHowever, looking back at what I did, it wasn't too bad. I had said this year I was only going to do challenges I really fancied, and that I was going to try and make them as good as I possibily could. I don't think I quite managed that, but it was a moderate amount of fun! And my active team mates did some fricking awesome stuff, so there is that.
Anyhow, here is a glimpse of my (part) week.
#121 SIDE-BY-SIDE. You know those garden gnomes that dotted your grandmother’s backyard? Well, it’s been a while and now they have fallen on hard times. They have turned to a life of crime and misanthropy. Their little gnome hearts are filled with despair, hatred, and regret. Show us the before and after.
When gnomes go bad...things get very dark, very quick.

Ad hoc post - Meme!
Aug. 4th, 2019 01:50 pmJust trying to stay alive on LJ - where is everyone, these days, huh?
Stolen from brutti_ma_buoni, a 31 day meme. I'm trying to decide whether to post every day and fail, or just post randomly. Oh the excitement, hey?
Anyhow, here's today's two answered questions.
I'm not sure I have a sexy list, but I definitely have an UNsexy list - including Tim/Timothy, Pete/Peter, Roger (snortle), William, Archibald, Arthur (unless you're King Arthus in which case you get a pass), and a whole bunch of those Victorian/Edwardian names that they resurrected from Anglo Saxon times and somehow tarnished forever with their side whiskers and startched shirts.
So I like Rebecca, Roisin, Eleanor, Hazel, Francesca, Genevieve. I tend not to like misspelled made-up meaningless names, or really old fashioned names like Ermintrude or the like. For some reason I've never liked Susan even though it's my middle name, and I now feel bad about that becuase I mentioned it one day in front of my Dad and found out he chose it!! Having said that, I always liked Susanna.
But it kind of depends on the person who owns the name. There are some names I'd never want to give a child but that totally suit a specific person. So basically, no hard and fast rules here!

Apr. 29th, 2019 09:35 pmSo here she is - three sides of her at any rate, since I realised I forgot to take an up-to-date photo of the mermaid side with the moon and compass rose finished. I'll have to snap that side tomorrow.

My LJ stats
Apr. 18th, 2019 03:06 pmI just tried getting that special anniversary card to again but for some reason LJ won't produce it to share. So I decided to screen cap it for posterity instead. Oh and I just noticed even this way it hasn't given me all the information it's given other people - on other's I've seen it said how many comments they'd received as well as how many they'd made.
Kind of sums up LJ in a way, doesn't it! LOL
Gorillas and heffelumps
Mar. 29th, 2019 12:38 pmSo here's the spraying in action. Sorry it's a link not an embedded gif but it's not working and I can't remember the workaround. :(
I did garner some interest from passers by, though not as much as you might expect.
Here's how he looks at the moment - though the darker blue in the photo isn't showing right, it's more a kind of purple. Now I've got to wait until Paul comes home and we are going to attempt to get him into the house. First we need to move Magical Mysteryphant the elephant out...
Before I went to the Isle of Man I'd been painting my first Elmer the Elephant - a Beatles-themed one called Magical Mysteryphant - which I had a lot of fun with. Sadly it's for Plymouth, not my home town trail!
In spite of that, I'm pleased how it's turned out.
John and Paul are on the other side, and the magical mystery tour bus is on the bum.
So he needs to move outside to await collection, and tomorrow I have another blank one arriving from Plymouth which will be next on my list after I've done the gorilla.
I'm still waiting to hear whether I have any more to paint - the Elmers for Newcastle haven't done their selection process yet, so I could still get another elephant. I won't be painting an Oor Wullie, but to be honest, that's a relief as it was such an odd shape.
