Big Bang insta rec!

There has been some controversy about this one, but I'm recommending it without hesitation because it's brilliant.
The Persistence of Memory by blackrabbit42 is so much more than a love story, and even more than a fascinating concept (though it is both of those too). It's thought provoking, it's insightful. It provides a beautifully sympathetic look inside the head of a talented autistic young man, and inside the head of another young man with an affliction that is strange and terrible in its consequences.

It's not light and fluffy, but it it is gorgeous. It will pull you in and not let go.

And the art is beautiful too.

Man, I so second this! I haven't finished the story yet but it's absolutely fantastic. As a mom of a differently-abled child, I can attest to the loneliness and frustration, but also to the wonder and magic of finding others who understand. This story has had me crying non-stop for hours and I can't even. Unforgettable, for sure!
