A further episode reaction drabble - especially for Thanksgiving. Thank you for being lovely Flisties.
So it's happy, right? Nah. Angsty as hell. Sorry!

Title: Happy Thanksgiving, Sam Winchester.
Words: 100

Sam’s thankful. No, he really is.

But -- and isn’t there always a but? -- that doesn’t mean he’s happy. He’s not blind. He can see what’s happening, and is helpless to prevent it, or even divert its relentless progress towards an ending that will not be a good one.

When Dean says he’s unsalvageable, Sam wants to rage and rant and deny it all, but he doesn’t. Because deep down, he knows it’s probably true. But he’ll carry on searching for an exit he doesn’t believe exists.

And it’s killing him slow and certain as a cancer of the soul.

Did you exchange a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage?

Spoilers for Season 5 - Swan Song

What might have happened for Sam in the long years/days/moments before the lamp flickered and went out….

***********

Sam was not blind to the irony.  Here he was, trapped inside the biggest, baddest cage fight of all time, and there was no-one here to take a bet.

Not that he would have wasted his money anyway.  He was rapidly becoming an expert student of archangel nature, watching as Lucifer and Michael went head to head over and over again.

Watching the angelic siblings tearing each other apart, verbally and physically, soon lost its appeal to the lone human in the room.

It was a bitch-fest of epic proportions, and it made him yearn even more for home.  For Dean.
