I just realised I can post my contribution to the recent SPN Seasons anthology, for the Fall/Autumn section. The stories were all Gen oneshots with a word limit of 1200. The anthology is divided into the four seasons, with each story vaguely thematic around each. There are a lot of really cool stories in there, so if you get a chance to download the book, I'd recommend it!

Summary: Set in another universe where humanity is spread across the galaxy, the Winchesters roam far and wide in the American galaxy, hunting monsters in their spaceship, the Impala. Then Sam sacrificed himself in order to stop the apocalypse, steering Lucifer’s vessel into a black hole known as the Cage. Dean thinks Sam is lost to him forever, so it’s a mystery to be solved when Dean receives Sam’s frozen body in the post. Obviously Dean’s first priority is to unfreeze Sam, but nothing is ever that simple for the Winchesters.

Dean meant to follow Sam straight out of there, but he couldn’t just walk away, knowing Claire was stuck there somehow, and not knowing if she could see or hear anything – little ten year old Joel Hart too, for that matter. He lingered by their panel for a moment, glad that the picture the two kids were placed in wasn’t one of the really weird ones – like that one over there with the flying orange eagle that was carrying an elephant in its talons, or the creepy old man with donkey ears and ants crawling over him. What was this artist smoking, anyhow, to come up with this shit?

The boys investigation is dead in the water until several months later, when Sam finds a report of a missing child who’s disappeared in similar circumstances right on their doorstep in Lebanon.

Kevin isn’t stupid. He’s a valedictorian, a brainiac, he’s Kevin Fricking Solo for fuck’s sake. He knows Crowley is playing him.
Dean, on the other hand?
Family. Worth dying for. Words that ring with sincerity, that Kevin wants so desperately to be true.
If he can’t believe in God any more, can’t blame the Winchesters, then he needs this.

Dean watches Sam for signs that he isn’t Sam and wonders about the ripple effect of his latest decision. Whether it will lead to another door slamming in his face, to Sam walking out on him again.

The closest Dean had got to quantum physics was watching the Big Bang Theory. Before that, he’d thought string theory was something to do with spaghetti. Or, you know. String.
Sitting in the War Room listening to Kevin and Sam debating the possibility of predicting the locations of angels who hadn’t yet found vessels by mathematically calculating their wave-like and/or dual particle-like behaviours was doing his head in.
He brightened suddenly. He’d shut the two of them in Crowley’s dungeon. Dean couldn’t wait to see Crowley’s head explode when the geek-out reached the uncertainty principle.
That would teach the bastard.
