Fandom Love - FanArt

I missed my original date for this post but here it is, better late than never. A little celebration of the fantastic breadth of talent in Fandom.
Bear in mind, this is just a small sample of what's out there, and it's only the tip of the iceberg of wonderful art I've admired over the years. Plus, they are not in any particular order. I LOVE THEM ALL and I wish I could just post everything here because it's all SO GOOD.

But I can't, so here's a selection.

A pretty perfect early season flavour SPN to start us off. This isn't necessarily the most famous pic by brilcrist, but it's one of my faves. I couldn't find it on their deviantart page but check out their other work, it's worth a look.

I just love people who can wield a biro (ball point pen BTW) as well as a pencil. Here's one example by huntinghounds.

Yep, I have much envy, looking through my folders of saved art... blakravel gives me pencil envy with her awesome command of line...Click on the pic and go check this out close up on deviantart. See just how few strokes of the pencil she used.

Of course I know blakravel is more famous for their amazing photo-realistic digital paintings but I think the pencil sketches are just beautiful.
I also have a weakness for watercolours, so salty_catfish and lamapan were huge favourites when they were into SPN. I mourn their passing onto pastures new.

Back to sketches because I love them so - here's one of the loveliest Dean profiles I've seen, by Maidenskull

Ahhhh this is SO hard guys! I've not even touched on some of my all time favourite artists yet - like quickreaver, petite_madame, chomaisky, maichan, dollarformyname etc etc etc... Ok, let's get on with it.
Something different. This is my absolute favourite piece by dollarformyname, even though she's done fantastic work for my own fics, there's just something about this one that really gets to me. The pose, the darkness, the rain, the car and, of course, the wings. Wonderful!

I've chosen this one by petite_madame, because I love the idea of Sam as Bucky, but also because I am in love with the wild, unfinished, unrefined brushstrokes. It's everything I aspire to as an artist and everything I will never be capable of doing.

I don't need to tell anyone to go and check out her various tumblr sites, deviantart etc, do I? She must be about the most prolific artist ever to grace SPN.
I'm also in love with maichan's pencilwork, but this is actually my fave piece by her - a rare landscape featuring our favourite girl, the Impala. Just off the I-95

And the same thing with quickreaver. Though I love the art she did for me, and this one, with it's Catholic Renaissance art feel,

my actual favourite work by her is this landscape she did for reversebang, the Flock.

Maybe it's the colouring or just the story waiting to be told? I don't know. I'm not very good at analysing my preferences.
There's certainly a story in this one though, my choice from all the lovely work chomaisky's done.


I think I'll finish up with a couple of random choices because anything else is too much for my poor old brain.

I'm thinking maybe I should do a post like this every now and then, because I've had to leave out so much sexy, beautiful, horrifying, clever, inspiring artworks...this fandom is legion and should be legendary. If anyone wants to, most of these are in my favourites on deviantart, you are welcome to have a browse through.

it's rather cool I thought. I haven't posted any of the horror type ones or the funny/sweet ones - I'll definitely have to do more of these I think!

I just uploaded nearly 200 artworks to Flickr just so I could use the html for this post - and as you can see, barely scratched the surface! And I have a few hundred more just sitting on my hard drive...

O_O Fandom is just full of talented people ^_^ You should totally post things like this every now and then, and share what you have found :) I also collect fandom stuff on deviantart, but I don't remember to go there that often these days :) It's always so wonderful when people want to express their love for a show in any way they can, be it stories or meta or icons or art or anything, including just squeeing about it to all who would listen :) Each way is important and precious, and all should be celebrated.

Oh good, you found me - I couldn't for the life of me find the bookmark I'd made to your page and of course neither could I remember whose journal it was hosting the love fest because my brain is full of holes. Thanks for posting the link and for the whole fan love idea. It's heartwarming and inspiring to see what all our fandoms have to offer!

What a wonderful and absolutely gorgeous post! Some of these I've seen before, but others are new to me, and I'm blown away by the talent in our fandom. And yes, I'd love to see another post like this, I often miss things on other platforms so it's great to see some new things, and to be reminded of some classics.

So many of these I hadn't seen before, thanks so much for putting them up. I think posts like this would be amazing every once in a while to let everyone see the absolute genius of the artists in this fandom. I don't even know where to look for most of these. I'm just thankful that artists like you and quickreaver and so many others still post right here on LJ.

Nice to know I might have introduced you to something new! I too am grateful so many artists I love still post here though we are gradually losing so many to tumblr.
