My weekend - a picspam
Oct. 25th, 2015 07:35 pmPure self indulgence with my camera today - all the glorious autmum colour we are having is so wonderful, and we had sunshine all day too. The perfect combo. Plus we went to Bury St Edmunds for their mini Sci Fi Fair, which meant it was time to have a photo with the Tardis. Naturellement.
Lovely leaves!

For all my US Flisties - yup, American grey squirrels are everywhere.

Bury's Abbey is mostly ruins, but the gardens belong to English Heritage and are open to the public. As you can see, they are very pretty. Especially now we are having such a wonderful autumn. The abbey was dissolved in Henry VIII's reformation and bought for £412 in 1560 by John Eyre (wonder if his family moved to Yorkshire later!). So parts of the ruins were turned into houses. That apse is now someone's home. I wouldn't mind living there...

This tower is Norman (11-12th century). I like the round arches.

Now to the Sci Fi - but there's no escaping the history! Moyses Hall Museum is in a 13-14th building and the sci fi exhibition was side by side with the normal museum displays. I can't help but think it was ill-advised to put the Dalek (and cyberman) next to the gibbet cage. Don't want to give them any more ideas about how to exterminate humans, after all!

Geek time! Me and the Tardis - with my lovely Dean bag
herminekurotowa made! NB it's Dean themed because those little dots are apples (for apple pie, right?)

Mal Reynolds' gun from Firefly! So shiny!

Star Trek communicator (with Leonard Nimoy's autograph)

It's official - I really am taller than an ewok.

I think it's safe to say that the Museum was well guarded this weekend.

We then raised our tone and had an all day veggie breakfast at Harriet's. Wonder what Dean would make of this?

And finally, a nice view of the houses that now occupy what was the west wing of the Abbey, with the Abbey church in the rear.

If anyone is really interested and wants to see more of Bury St Edmunds and the other sci fi memorabilia , all my photos are on Flickr HERE.
