Arty post - Drawtober & other things

It's been a while since I posted anything arty that isn't fanart, but I've recently started a new art class, similar to my old sketchbooking one, where the challenge is to try lots of different things and push yourself out of your comfort zone.

The theme of the first two weeks has been caricature, and after sticking to pencil last week, this week it was all about going straight in with the indian ink, and using bamboo pens and sticks to make sure I wasn't too precious. Wanda Gág with her giant palette was the first one I did today, and I really liked it!

Having felt this was successful it rather paralysed me and it took me about 15 minutes to start on anything else, and then I just filled the opposite page with a mixture of caricature and just loose ink. It was fun while I was doing it but doesn't look anything special.

Meanwhile, over on Dreamwidth, my lovely little Drawesome community is doing Drawtober with a list of our own prompts. I've done Day 1 - Pie. It's not a great photo, but scanning would be worse since it goes across two pages of the sketchbook.
Guess what it's titled... yep! Pie(s) in the sky...

Love both of these — Wanda has the most fabulous expression on her face, she looks like she's about to paint something really naughty — she must be in the Supernatural fandom!!! XD

And magpie with a pie, love it! Lots of movement and character in that picture — I just hope it's not Dean's pie, otherwise I don't hold out much hope for magpie's future!

These look really good. I like the way the first one goes from very dark, sharp lines to the gentlest of shading. Nice contrast.

And your bird! Those wings! It looks fantastic!

Thankee! I love the freeness too but my anal side usually kicks in first. LOL
