SPN Eldritch Art Masterpost - Second of Death.

Yay! It's sinister time again! This year's eldritch I snagged Captain_sodapop/AndThatWasEnough's creepy casefic Second of Death. The Winchsters come up against an extreme religious family when trying to prevent the apocalypse (first time round), and weirdness ensues. Story link on AO3


Non-spoiler motel scene, with the boys on edge and Dean being a tease.


Process-wise, the story intro had this awesomely unpleasant scene featuring a river of blood, so that had to be done. So the banner is in my Fabriano A5 sketchbook, done with Derwent Graphik pen, indian ink, watersoluable brush pen and watercolour splatters.
This is the page scan - the splatter went over the fold in the pages so I made use of that as space for the text.

And here's the motel room sketched in blue pencil then inked before painting (just in case I ran out of time - this way I'd have something to post today! LOL)


And that's it! Simples.

Ooh, I have such a soft spot for SPN's cheesy motel rooms and you've done such a good job of recreating one here! Love the garish, clashing colours and patterns! Teasing Dean on the bed ain't bad either...

Love the river of blood too, the way the banks and trees are grey and ash-like and the river just really stands out.

We don't have enough cheezy motel rooms in show anymore. This was a most welcome addition!!!
Nice style, there's something jagged and a bit worrisome about the line art style, perfect for a forboding fic.

I'm going to sort of reiterate what I said on the server here so it doesn't get lost in all the replies/comments. I love your river of blood, the looming purples in the background, and the ash-like ink splatters. Your banner is wonderfully spooky. And your scene image is fun and sexy.

Adding to my thoughts from before, I really like how in the banner/title card the tree branch looks like a hand. I'm really excited to see how your set works with the story. When I get the time, that story will be read. I'm kind of hoping something happens after your scene image where Dean gets caught with his literal pants down. XD

These look great. The bloody river looks very sinister, and I love Dean draped half naked over the bed - who wouldn't!!??
