So it might not have been the best season opener ever, I might not have been totally grabbed by the heart strings or invested at the time - but thinky thoughts still ensued so...drabble.

This is what we do

He was standing inside the Darkness, and yet he could see. Dean was a simple man, do or die, so he didn’t ponder too deeply how that could be.

The Darkness was an ancient, powerful evil, yet she chose the form of a woman. Dean was a man, so he didn’t wonder why or how.

He was bound to the Darkness. She said it and he believed her. Dean was lonely and afraid so he didn’t question it.  He felt its truth in every fibre.

Dean knew the blackness that sullied his soul.

On and through was the only way.

He was alone in the Impala inside the Darkness, and yet he could see. Sam was an analytical man; there were too many terrible possibilities to compute.

The ancient, powerful Darkness chose a small group of humans to spread her chaos. Sam in his cleverness couldn’t understand why, but he was determined to find out atone.

He tasted the contamination of poisoned blood like bitter déjà vu on his tongue. Sam was alone and afraid and yet he refused to ask for help.

Sam knew the contamination raging through him was nothing new.

Secrets and silence were the only way.

Engaging character piece. I liked the contrast between them, particularly the repetition of lonely/alone and afraid, and each of them acknowledging the darkness with himself.
