I've done my usual and made Danneel's face too long and thin, and I'm not exactly sure what I've done wrong with JJ - so any help would be appreciated, including draw-overs. Bear in mind the paper is fairly rough and rubbing out knackers the surface.

I can also see Danneel's mouth is not right...
I'm thinking of adding JJ's hand coming out towards the viewer (which might serve a dual purpose as it might help distract from the inaccurate faces LOL!)

Date: 2015-03-31 10:31 pm (UTC)Danneel's eyebrows are heavier than you've drawn them, though you have the shape almost perfect--they need to be wider top to bottom--draw in a few more hairs under the arch of the brow to flatten that arch, just a touch. The shadows under her eyes need to reach lower on her face to open up the eye socket a little. And her teeth are larger than you've drawn them. Making them bigger will open up her smile just a little bit--and you can arch the left side of her upper lip a tiny bit to expose slightly more gum--it will make her smile a lot more relaxed and natural.
I'd take out the shadow you have to the left of her chin--it makes the chin look longer than in the photo, and more pronounced. Enlarging and relaxing the mouth a little and eliminating the chin-shadow will bring her lower face more into proportion.
The bones are all there, and they're fantastic. What I'm suggesting are mere tweaks.

I love the way you drew the hair, btw! Anyway, good luck with this. Portrait drawing is hard and is a long process of moulding and shaving and most importantly, really looking. Good luck! :D

Date: 2015-04-01 07:01 am (UTC)Just a couple of sggestions from me; I think with JJ, I would deepen the shading around her eyes, that area looks a little bit flat, and doing so would bring out the bridge of her nose and her cheekbones. Also, I think the lower half of her face is a shade too long. In the photo, her eyes (I haven't measured this, visual judgement only) are about perfectly midway down her face, if anything fractionally over halfway down her face. Yours are above the halfway point and that givves the illusion of lengthening her face.
In terms of Danneel, I can't see too much wrong except that maybe her chin is a bit too square.
Great work so far!
