Episode insta reaction - spoilers (obv)
May. 21st, 2014 12:54 pmI live-streamed at 3am (well I missed the first 20 minutes as I hadn't set an alarm and was taking pot luck as to whether I'd watch it live or not) but yeah, I was there for the ride. Insta-ish reaction after having watched the whole thing through at 8:30 this morning with two fellow JIB attendees I've just met - it was an emotional roller coaster ride.Or at least, the Dean parts were. The Metatron parts were annoying and didn't bear close scrutiny, the Castiel Gadreel parts were interesting but not that gripping, and Crowley was so busy being mysterious I wasn't sure what to make of it.
The ending left me thinking - WHY was this not the mid season finale? Thie whole season could have been so amazing if they'd condensed the Mark storyline they've given us over a torutous 23 episodes into the first 11-12, leaving the 2nd half of the season for Sam attempting to cure Dean of his demon-hood, while Crowley presumably tries to use Dean for nefarious purposes. Now that is a storyline that would have kicked ass, big time. I wouldn't even have complained if they'd thrown in some Castiel trying to sort out Heaven and Metatron trying to escape or whatever Angel boringness they wanted to roll out in order to keep Misha on the show. I'm most dischuffed that they got rid of poor Gadreel just as he was getting interesting.
So what I'm basically saying is - I liked this episode, but it was in no way a cliff hanger season finale. Maybe I'll get more excited when I've watched it again. It does at least offer some fuel for fanfics over the summer, which is a good thing.
