Summary: Dean tries to find ways to cope now Sam’s at Stanford, and John is off who knows where doing who knows what.

Dean works the job like always, except everything’s different now.

Sam isn’t the only one to strike out that September. Dad takes off too. Says he’s got something to attend to, that Dean’s old enough to work cases alone – Dean can’t argue.

Sam’s in California and Dean’s everywhere Sam isn’t.

He kills two black dogs and gets his leg chewed up bad, spends two weeks in a fever-dream while infection rages and nearly sweeps him away. Dad checks on him while he’s out of it; he never knows.

He survives, but the Impala’s as empty as the long road ahead.

Summary: Set in 2005. After finishing the voodoo job in New Orleans, Dean’s supposed to contact John to get new instructions for his next hunt, but instead decides to detour to Stanford to check up on Sam.  On arriving in Palo Alto, Dean stumbles on a case. Unluckily, he is cursed by the witch when he ganks her and is turned into a dog.
Being adopted by Sam and Jess seems like a stroke of good fortune, but as all hunters know, there is no such thing as blind luck.
