I'ts raining SO hard right now! It's coming straight down, no wind, and it feels like Spring rather than autumn. Cold though.

Anyway, with all the Twitter shenanigans and LJ still being mostly empty, I thought I'd post and see what folks who are here are doing. i hate how fragmented everything is, and how everything is forcing my lazy arse to be proactive, which I'm terrible at. I have a nice Discord server which has a dozen or so active members who are my go to's for fandom chatting, but then I have to check Twitter for some other folks, and Facebook for my Mum and other non fannish peeps, and DW and now Mastodon - and the only ones that email me are DW and LJ . And I LIKE being emailed. SIGH.

Now I have three Mastodon accounts and yes, I get that if I follow someone it will show up on any of my three feeds but blimey O'Reilly. I have mastodon social, art and something called fandom something and I can't see the point of any of them since it's one of those blooming scoll feeds AGAIN and how anyone can spare hours and hours a day scrolling to see what you've missed I don't know.

Wow this could easily turn into a major wailing and gnashing of teeth here so I'll shut up now.

I will do an art dump post sometime soon - but first I need to get some beta-ing done, and read my Marvel BB fic I'm arting for. Oh and two week's worth of Italian homework.

I check in here daily, but I rarely post. I never got the hang of Twitter--I followed some folks but I rarely ran into them there, and it just never felt linear or comfortable for conversation. I'm at DW under this name, which could be great but I hate their pics and graphics upload--it's dysfunctional. I'm on Tumblr as arliss, which I love for several fandoms but it's such a timesuck I've limited visits to twice a week and thus never really catch up. Unless someone builds it, there will never be another site like LJ in its heyday. And frankly I think while some people are nostalgic for filters and communities, most don't have the time investment to curate that sort of action.

I'm at a loss. I dropped my Discords, and Pillowfort. And I just don't have the spoons to go dig myself a foxhole at Mastodon. I'm on FB under my own first name, mainly for long-range family, and friends from other defunct websites. I'm adrift, and seem destined to remain so.

ugh I feel you. And you're so right, other options are so linear. I know LJ has that feature in the friends feed but I never used it for exactly that reason — I made/make use of the email alerts for posts (which DW shares for all it's clunkiness).

I do enjoy Discord and visit it every day — but yeah, time is the biggest factor. I only have capacity for so many conversations and interactions...

I'm not very involved in the fandom, because I don't draw, I don't write, and I don't know English very well, so I subscribe to a lot of users and look through all the posts on instagram, facebook, twitter, tumbler in the morning. It takes half a day and lets me know what's going on in the fandom right now, but I rarely comment and notice that there are fewer and fewer comments everywhere, and the number of likes remains almost the same. That is, the fans almost stop talking, but only watch. Maybe this is due in general to the fact that people like to watch more than discuss. Instagram is getting more popular, not Facebook or Tumblr. But I'm glad that someone else is writing, posting photos or drawings, and even something from their personal lives. It is always interesting to read how people live, what they do all over the world )) 💗

And this is where LJ wins over other formats — it allows people to 'meet' and have a conversation if they want. Your English is very good! What's your first language?

A hard thing to be at the moment, I should imagine.

It's great you're still here and enjoying people's creations — it's such a shame LJ has shrunk so much, but SPN fandom is still active, it's just dispersed. So some folk went to Dreamwidth (it's worth checking over there for any of your faves because most people set up accounts with the same usernames), some are on Twitter, Tumblr or of course, AO3. It does make it harder to interact though.

I am subscribed to many on twitter, tumbler, but there are no such discussions as there were before, when the series was on, now there is no more.

What is this Mastodon I keep hearing about? I remember Pillowfort was the brand new thing but I don't hear about it anymore, so I guess it's not such a big deal anymore.

I've read and heard enough about Twitter to basically conclude that Mr Musk just wanted to make a point and didn't actually think things through, and that if he'll go full no-moderation/free speech the advertisers will leave, and only the most dedicated of the user base, those willing to pay the fee, will stay.

Are you a student in Italian or a teacher?

Mastodon is a social media platform that I don't understand — hence now having all these accounts/identities/whatever on there. And since it doesn't have any alerts I'm going to forget to ever use it anyway.

Asking if I'm an Italian teacher made me laugh — I don't have any aptitude for languages at all, but I've been sporadically trying to learn Italian for years. This is the longest stint I've managed but I've missed a couple of weeks lessons and am behind with my homework now.

I'm with you, I always described Lj as my fandom home, but a combination of things such as the end of the show, the ru55ian connection and losing June has taken a lot of the shine away from Lj for me. Also, the fact that many of my regular friends have moved away too mean it's so quiet now! Last week I closed up Big Pretzel which was a heartbreaking decision, and the Parade is just treading water now, I really feel like fandom is slipping away from me and I really don't want that. That said I will always hang around Lj, I have too many good memories here to abandon it and the friends who remain will always mean so much to me.

I've never got involved with Twitter or Tumblr, too much toxicity there, and I never used Facebook for fandom, so I don't feel like I have a real fandom home now.

What's Mastodon like? I keep hearing about Mastodon as an alternative to Twitter but haven't checked it out yet!

I just don't understand Mastodon. It's a bit like twitter in that when you go look it's a long scroll of posts, with a notifications tab and suchlike, but there are different 'servers' and I dunno. It's got good rules — unlike twitter, but I just don't really get how it works. Plus there are no notifications to prompt me to go and look so I know I'll forget about it.

I didn't realise you'd closed big pretzel! 😮

Well, I might go over and have a look at Mastodon, just to check it out.  Even now, I don't get Twitter, so I can't imagine I'd be much better at understanding Mastodon than you are!

It was such a shame to see the end of BP, but the comm has been limping along for a couple of years now.  We've had barely any engagement with recent challenges, so it was time to let it go.

No, it's all still there. There's far too much treasure on that community to ever delete it.

I don’t use live journal much , I just post art sometimes I don’t know how you ‘meet’ on here or get ‘friends’ I have just seen some of the bangs hosted here , I’m on some discord servers that are related to fandom bangs or ships and I’ve seen people start using hive ???? I like tumblr for the art but you don’t have conversations

I 'met' people on here just by commenting on stuff and then ending up chatting — especially when people post blog type entries too. Never heard of Hive, wonder if that's worth checking out? I do like Discord for the privacy — but I don't tend to interact in the bang servers because there are just too many of them. So really the only two Discords I visit much are an art one for Marvel fandom (though I've not been there much for a while) and a small SPN one which is carefully curated. There are advantages to that, but it does mean if we 'meet' people elsewhere it's unlikely they could join that group as some members would find it unsettling. We get comfy in our little bubbles...
it would be nice to have a SPN Artists discord along the lines of the Marvel one, but with the fandom schism between Destiel and everything else, moderating it could end up more trouble than it's worth.

Yes that’s the problem I do reblog both wincest and destiel as I like all characters but I have mainly been doing j2 or wincest lately because I don’t get blocked so often for being a multishipper and the Gabriel discord that was how I started in the fandom hasn’t had a post for months, I opened an account on hive but it’s all hassle starting new ones

It really is — I wish fandom hadn't spread out so much, or got so intolerant. Ship and let ship was such a great mantra.

I'm not sure how much longer LJ will last but I'm sticking with it and crossposting to DW when I remember.
