I don't have that much that is deep and meaningful to say about this one - I had fun all the way through because I kind of love Garth, he makes me laugh, right up to the last scene when Bobby appeared and all I could think was Oh bugger, they went there.

Don't get me wrong, I love Bobby, I never wanted him to die - but once dead, I just can't see that pragmatic hunter opting to stay behind, knowing what he does about how ghosts never stay benign.  Even given the strength of his love for his boys, I really couldn't see him doing this.  Oh well. 'Tis done now, and I'm sure whatever happens Jim Beaver will make the most of it and no doubt at some point tear our hearts to shreds again in the process.

So that little bundle of mixed feelings aside - did you notice that Garth was talking to his girlfriend on the phone when he thought he'd Garthed Jenny the Ghost-that-wasn't?  Anyone else think that someone who 'hearts' their boyfriend on the phone is highly likely to be Becky?????  (Remember the long lingering looks those two exchanged at the end of the drossy Wedding episode)?

Nuff said.

It's a scary thought....

I can see the appeal of ghost!Bobby in the "oh he's looking out for his boys even from beyond the grave!" sense, but he has to know that he can't stay forever. That, one day, the boys are going to have to destroy that flask and lose Bobby all over again.

Unless, of course, he holds the key to the Leviathan mystery. After all, he did seem to think the co-ordinates to the site in Wisconsin was important enough to spend his last breath on writing them.

highly likely to be Becky

Haha, could be.

He did but then unless Frank got the wrong co-ordinates, we do now have that site, don't we? Unless Bobby knows the whole diabolical Leviathan plan from his two second scanning of Dick's desk.

He told Dean that his girlfriend had twins, so unless there's a LOT we don't know about Becky's life, it's not Becky. Thank God.

It was in the cringey sock puppet scene. I liked Garth a lot for most of this, but that whole scene, with a little girl who has just watched her mother die horrifically, and Garth using a sock puppet to say that Mr Fizzles knew she was lying, that really stuck in my craw. Show, sometimes I wish you would sit back for a moment and contextualize your humor before you decide if you want to run with it.

I admit, I found the Mr Fizzles thing cringe-worthy too...appropriate humour is something the show is not very good at sometimes.

Yeah. And I know Dean's in a dark place right now in a lot of ways and isn't going to be able to respond to a grieving, traumatized kid the way he could reach out to Lucas way back when, but him just sitting back and being eyerolly in that scene didn't read like Dean to me. Even when he was dealing with Amy's kid, which is about the darkest Dean and traumatized kid scenario we're ever likely to get, you could feel the kinship and the element of respect. I just can't see him sitting back and letting Garth roll with the combination of condescending and insensitive that was Mr Fizzles in that situation.

It's one of the greatest flaws of the last four seasons, I think, that Spn has developed this tendency to throw taste and characterization out the window the minute they let humor in the door. It's sad, because there are still some really funny moments in their humor eps and I want to enjoy them, but all too often there's something that makes me uneasy.

It's really easy to spoiler text things after the new release! c&ping:

ETA: huh, except then it messes up its own html! Linking to the release instead of c&ping:

http://lj-releases.livejournal.com/73206.html

Basically, there's now a spoiler cut that works just like an LJ cut.

Thanks! The problem isn't so much finding a mechanism as making myself remember to use it (or just put spoilers in the header and tags for instance). If I had a brain that worked it would help.

I also still think I'm posting in a void and nobody is likely to be interested enough to read what I'm wombling on about.

I actually like the idea of Garth's special lady being Becky but I do think the comment about her having twins puts her out of the running. But with Show, you never can tell.
