I have rather a lot of WIPs, most of which are too short for this, so I wasn't sure which one to go for but ended up with this one, which is Book 2 of my original fic I've been writing for far too long.  This is from Chapter 2 because Chapter 1 only has 6 pages!

Jake lifted his head warily, shivering under the warmth of his own blood streaking down his body.  The Daemon grabbed a stubby plastic gun-shaped object from the millstone torture table and thumbed a switch on its side.  Jake winced in anticipation as he recognised the new instrument was a taser with the cartridge removed, and tensed himself as the Daemon placed the weapon onto the bare bloody skin of his slashed chest.

“You know once the crossing place is open, you can walk your precious human body out of here and never come back, don’t you,” The Daemon said, in tones of great reasonableness.  Jake just shook his aching head. 

And now I've posted that I want to change it...
