amberdreamsAre you a fan of Sam and Dean Winchester? Do you love fic, poetry, and meta about them? How about fanart? Episode discussions, both old and new? Convention coverage? All the Sam and Dean content that could possibly be put into print?
We’re looking for content creators to participate in the inaugural issue of Winchester: a Sam & Dean Fanzine. It’s a project aimed at creating a recurring fanzine with a wide variety of content, all focused primarily on Sam, Dean, and their relationship.

Some of the content we’re looking to include:
- fan fiction + poetry
- fanart + comics
- fan edits
- meta analyses
- various other articles, including (but not limited to) recent episode coverage, classic SPN spotlights for old episodes, convention coverage (featuring Jared and Jensen), interviews with fandom creators, debates/discussions, and fic recs
- convention photography
...and whatever else you can find in a fandom space that will transfer to a physically printed format. We’re also looking for graphic/layout designers to help with the design of the zine, as well as editors/betas to proofread later on.

Every issue of Winchester will have a theme based on the language of flowers, focusing on one flower per issue. For our first issue, we’ll be using the daffodil as our central theme. A detailed breakdown can be found right here.
The final product of this project will be a physical zine that people are able to order. More information about this will come out later in the project!
Details about participation and content
The total number of open spots for each position isn't set in stone at this point. It will ultimately depend on the turnout we get, but for now, we're looking to gather as many people as possible to apply for each position and ensure that we have enough to make the project work.
All creative content (everything but episode/con coverage) should link back to the theme of the current issue in some way.
Now, for more information about the specifics of content for this project, and what we're looking for:
Fan fiction + poetry
Any fic + poetry should be focused on Sam, Dean, or both (i.e., their relationship). There's flexibility in terms of length, but you shouldn't expect to write any more than 3000 words for a piece (though you're certainly welcome to write less).
For specific content, you're welcome to write whatever you want, either within canonverse or outside of it, as long as it's about one (or both) of the boys. Gen fic is welcome. Wincest is welcome. In regards to other ships, past canon relationships can be referenced (Sam/Jess, Dean/Lisa, etc.), but those ships shouldn't be the basis of your work. Finally, everything should be rated T at most. Fade-to-black is fine, but in short, nothing super explicit. If you're not sure where to draw that line, feel free to ask!
Fanart
Any art depicting one or both of the boys is what we're going for. Multi-frame comics are also an option, if that's something you're interested in! We're also going to need front and back cover designs, and possibly some art goodies (stickers, postcard, etc.) once it's time to distribute the final zine.
Meta
Any piece discussing Sam, Dean, or both of them together is fair game. Word counts are flexible and will go on a case-by-case basis.
Other articles
Some of the types of articles that we'll be touching on include (but are not limited to) convention coverage, recent episode coverage, general fandom news, and classic SPN spotlights. Some that are a little more experimental (let us know if you're interested!) are a debate/discussion section (wherein two people each write an argument for one side of a topic in a civil matter), interviews with fandom creators (of any kind- writers, artists, gif-makers, vidders, etc.), and fic recs (pertaining to Sam and/or Dean).
If you have any ideas for other sections that could be included (feel free to take inspiration from fandom spaces or even existing magazines), then feel free to let us know, and we'll see if we can work it in!
Photography
Largely, this is in regards to con coverage. Jared and Jensen are the main focus here, so either one of them or both together!
Graphic design/layout
This is mostly related to the design of the zine itself and putting together spreads for the different pieces of content. Additionally, fan edits are welcome, and have the same guidelines described above- as long as it focuses on Sam, Dean, or both, it's good to go.
Editing/betaing
This position is a final stages kind of thing, to help proofread and check for errors throughout the zine.
