This turned out to be for
runedgirl, which is very cool, because I love her stories and her Sam and Dean!
As usual I chose the wrong time to experiment with my media, so when this didn't turn out like I had imagined, there was no time to start again. But I got some lovely feedback about the emotion in the piece over at
spnspringfling, so maybe re-doing it would have lost some of that quality.
The finished art with digital colour enhancing

The process
I started with a rough drawing in my rough sketchbook to get the positioning/composition. I kind of liked this better than the proper drawing...I think these are both better likenesses and have more spontaneity than the finished art.

I had some nice watercolour paper already prepared - my intention was to try spray acrylic paint then do watercolour over the top, leaving the acrylic to show through. That kind of worked but not in the way I wanted it to. I then drew the boys again inside the circle of paint.

Next I painted the boys with watercolour over the pencil. I wanted the pencil roughness to be visible.

Next I added more watercolour to the outside frame and within their circle because the white background made the figures look a bit disconnected. Plus it intensified the colour.

And that's about it. Now I have another picture to add to my growing pile of stuff I don't know what to do with. LOL!
