DCU Bang Art Masterpost

I've been pushing myself to try new things this year so here I am, venturing outside of SPN. Ok, in some ways, I didn't venture very far, since I can't help but think of Jason Todd as being played by Jensen Ackles...
This dcu_bang fic is A New Taste of Love by Empires & Salvatore, and as you might guess from the title, it's a love story - though the two protagonists don't realise it, and have to be taught a few lessons first. Which, by the way, is a trope I have a huge fondness for!

For those of you who dabble in DCU, it's a Dick Grayson as Nightwing/ Jason Todd as Red Hood story.

I did two scenes from the fic - one is right at the start, one a ways into the tale, but I don't think either of the pictures give anything away, so no spoilers!

The story starts with the witchy/wizard Klarion battling various heroes, including Nightwing and Red Hood.


The second scene is a quiet but tense moment in another universe.

All the pieces apart from the banner were begun with traditional media then coloured in PS.

I got Klarion's face totally wrong so I drew it again and used the second face in the digital version

The drawings in the brown sanguine pencil are all large, on A2 paper.
This ink over pencil drawing is only A4

I did start trying to colour this with watercolour/gouache, but it wasn't working, so this one got coloured digitally too.

Aw thanks! I need to do some more tutorials on PS though - things like cell shading and getting lines clean digitally are beyond me LOL. And practice more drawing hands and feet.

I constantly struggle with getting clean line work in PS, so don't feel bad. It's hard to master. If you figure out how - share with the class! ;)

Well, you most certainly pushed yourself on these and they came out fabulous. I love seeing the before painted shots, always makes me think I'm watching a tutorial :D

I think that would be on one of those tripods for the proper camera or having the phone set up at an angle, I've never figured out how to do it either.

Gorgeous work, Amber (as per usual)! But I can't help but see a stunning resemblance of your Dick Grayson to the other half of J2 - which I so wouldn't mind ;) Just imagine a live-action movie with Jared playing Nightwing and Jensen back as Red Hood - glorious!

Ha ha I wasn't sure if that was just me - clearly not! LOL. I did draw jared as Nightwing before, a while ago, so yes, i agree that would be a great pairing!

Putting J2 goggles on is easy - I mean Jared would make an awesome Nightwing, and we already have Jensen as the Red Hood!

Wow, these are gorgeous, I love the use of purple in the first one with Klarion, it's such a rich colour, and the cat's cute! I love seeing your sketches - you do the male body so well, especially thighs here! And I may have to go out of my comfort zone and read this one - I also "...can't help but think of Jason Todd as being played by Jensen Ackles..."!

I don't think you need to know a great deal about DCUniverse to follow the story - it jumps between alternative universes which I think relate to different versions of Batman and his Robins in different media (comics, film etc), but knowing about each one isn't necessary. I mean, I've only ever watched the Red Hood cartoon movie (because Jensen!), a couple of the more recent movies and the old 60s Adam West Batman!

I really liked Under The Red Hood, it was exciting and Jensen plays angsty, vulnerable badasses so well! I've watched a few Batman movies and used to love the old TV show KERPOW!
