For a challenge on [community profile] DRAWESOME, and in part prompted by Inktober's Day 24 prompt, Blind, here's my attempts to draw blind, without looking at the paper at all. Thanks to goss for the vid refs and the idea!

It's even harder than drawing left handed, the temptation to check what you are doing is so strong! I draped a newspaper over the paper so even if I dropped my gaze it wouldn't help me.

I thought I'd try it two different ways - the first was trying to use one continuous line. I ended up using two as I took my pen off around the second eye, and when I returned pen to paper, somehow the whole scale of the drawing changed. Really weird.

Continuous line (almost)
The I thought I'd try a more 'normal style', drawing one bit then moving on to the next. That one was even stranger. Looks like I was reasonably ok for length, but had no clue about width.
Taking the pen off the paper
For both I started with the ear, which is interesting because normally I'd start with the eyes.
Dean is judging my efforts and finds them wanting. LOL!

Hee! Also, yay for attempting the challenge! I think you did really well - in both instances, Dean's face looks like a face. \o/ \o/ (the same cannot be said for my own. LOL)

I actually like the continuous line one better than the second, even though the second one is more realistic looking. I think it's because in the first, the line is strong and deliberate, and creates these lovely angles and strange interwoven marks. It strikes me as quite visually dynamic. Interesting...

Also, the emotions are both so different - First Dean is glaring at me like, "So I've got sideburns in my eye, what are you looking at, huh??". And Second Dean is all reproachful like, "Wait, what just happened...why is my face so squished...". <3

I like the clean lines of the first one! And if you are not looking for likeness, I think it came out visualy interesting!
This is a fun challenge...

"visually interesting" is a good way to describe them. They look like they're telling their own story, not Dean's.

Good going! I actually think they do look a bit like Dean, especially the second one. :)

He, I did it the same way. Though I didn't dare attempt something as complicated as a face. I like both versions and it certainly lead to soem interesting expressions!

Such a fascinating idea and the results are just as fascinating. I think both are really impressive considering the limitations you were working with.

I am once again so impressed with your talent! I think the first one with the continuous line looks great. There is no possible way I could do this, so kudos to you!!!

Now that's a challenge! And they look good - the continuous and non-continuous approaches sound interesting. I would never be able to do this.

Man, drawing without looking is really hard. I think you did an awesome job.

There is a wonderful charm to each of these pieces. (The first one reminds me of wire art—love it!) Not to mention this is just highly impressive? Wow.

Wow, that's such a fascinating idea, I've done the blind drawing tests, where you just allow your hands to create shapes and patterns, but never tried the contour version. May have to try that, it might be all my hands can deal with today, lol. The first one is somehow still very recognisable as Dean btw!
