Inktober 2017 - Day 5 - Long

I'd forgotten this until I was messing about today, but the Chinese word 龙 Lóng means dragon. So yep, that's where I went with today's prompt! It had to be done. I experimented with my Japanese felt-tip brush pen, with a bit of a wash, in a new A6 sketch book I bought today in Manchester Art Gallery - because I can't seem to stop buying art supplies I don't need.

I can see you had a lot of fun with the brush pen. :D I like the repeat pattern style of this, especially all the plating details for the scales, like a warrior's armour.

yes I think this is the one I'm most happy with so far - the brush pen was really nice to use with the sweep of the scales!

I meant to mention the dragon piece in teh round-up post. This looks really cool! I've never used brush pens so it's great to see what you can do with them.

i'd never used them before but someone recommended this Japanese one which I got from a company on Ebay I think - and it's really nice. They have a small brush one end and a larger one at the other.

So did you only do the black lineart with that pen or the grey shading as well? If it could do both things I'd consider ordering it.

Yep I used a wet brush over the brush pen to get the grey washes.

Oh thanks for the link. Is it refillable? I couldn't find anything on that in the descriptions so I'm guessing not? And yes I could see the details.

I don't think so. It looks from the seller's site that they do refillable brush pens so that might be an option, though I like the convenience of this felt tip format. I haven't used my two much (the brown one has thicker brushes than the silver one) so I don't know how long they last.
