Of ducks and lions
Mar. 16th, 2017 08:02 pmToday was spent travelling up to Norwich. We were on a mission to deliver our six ducks to the Break charity at a business networking event.
Me and Lois at Ipswich station, duck-transport-ready!

Here I am on the train with my ducks! The ones with the sculptures on their backs were done by my artist friend Lois. They were a bit harder to get in and out of their bags so we only got one of them out on the train.

It was funny how little attention they garnered! I'd have thought people might have been a little more curious about a bunch of decorated ducks having their photos taken by two middle-aged old fogeys and a young woman wearing arm rings...
This is a view showing Lois's Duck Lake dancers, rising up out of their carrier bag.

The armoured hare came along for the ride - Lois's boyfriend made the leather armour, which I think is dead cool. (He takes commissions for leatherwork if anyone is interested!)

This is Lois's Mongolian archer duck. He's made from wire, kitchen foil, and, of course - duck tape!

The meeting was being held in a hair and beauty salon, so it was great for showcasing all our decorated ducks! It's a shame the woman who came to represent the charity was totally useless - she was supposed to be there to talk to the attendees about sponsorship for the ducks in the duck race but she seemd more bothered about how she was going to transport the ducks down the road to the office after the meeting. In a car. Huh. I felt like telling her - try carrying them all the way from bloody Ipswich, Mrs.
We duck-taped Ducktor Who's fez on - it's a bit precarious. LOL

Anyhow, our work is done, it's up to the charity to find a business who wants to race a duck in August. I've got lions and tigers and bears to worry about now! I got home to find an email saying my Lion (who is also a tiger because his face will be Shere Khan) is going to be delivered on Monday!! So now I need to get the living room sorted out so I'll have somewhere to put him - that's my weekend sorted then. First I have to sort out the heaps of stuff on the coffee table, then move a LOT of furniture, roll up the rugs, put something down to protect the floor... The good news is I now have a contingency plan for my chubby bears - which are going to arrive on 28th. If my fears are correct and they are too fat to fit through my living room door, my elderly neighbours have said I can paint them in their empty garage. Phew. Given that the bears are front to back 80cm, side to side 90cm, and the door frame is exactly 81cm wide, I think I might be using that risk mitigation!

I think I'm in love with the Archer--before I sorted out exactly what the figure was about, I was wondering about the bondage duck, heh. But now I see, and it's awesome! Duck Dodgers and Ductor Who are adorably fabulous. I can't wait to see your lion come to life!

As for the armoured hair, he's stunning :D The leatherwork is gorgeous.

Date: 2017-03-17 10:46 pm (UTC)I told Lois she should persuade her Jason to design one of the big hares, because having one with leather armour would be awesome!
