Had a nice few days up in Shrewsbury visiting Mum with Paul - though Paul wasn't happy as he has possible shin splints and couldn't run. Because of the shin splints, Paul was trying to keep weight off his leg as much as possible, so he didn't come with me and Mum when we had a day out in Church Stretton in the (very shallow) snow. We managed to pick the right day for this, it was virtually the only day that week where it didn't rain!

Some piccies:

Mum's always cold so she's been brave here, taking off her coat, though she's still nicely bundled up in her big fleece and extra layers under that!

We had a mishap on arrival - Mum dropped her camera somewhere just after we got off the bus. I asked in a couple of shops only ten to fifteen minutes afterwards when we discovered it had gone, but had no joy, so we carried on wandering around the shops and had our lunch without much hope of finding it. We returned to the bus stop with some time to wait, so we went into the tiny independent bookshop to look around and asked in there, just in case. The lady owner was really helpful, and mentioned the local police station round the corner, and that sometimes lost property is handed into the hardware store on the corner, or the newsagents opposite. So I left Mum browsing books and took a last pass round. I called in the newsagents last, not hopeful, but the woman behind the counter straight away said oh yes, Middletons the hairdressers has the camera!

Turns out the hairdresser had found it on the corner when she was on her way into work, and had posted on Facebook about it! So I dashed up the hill to find her, and dashed back again just in time to thank the bookshop lady and catch our bus! Yay for nice, kind and honest folk in small towns.

Less nice was coming home for Mal's funeral today - so sad to say goodbye to a good friend. It was another Catholic mass, followed by a shorter but similar ceremony at the crematoium, and I have to say, I do not miss all that God-stuff. In some ways, I'd have rather been able to go with his daughter to throw his ashes off the Cliffs of Moher, which is what he wanted. That would have felt more appropriate. Never mind, he's gone now...

Looks like you had a lovely day. How nice that you found your Mum's camera - things like that really restore your faith in people!
It must have been difficult saying goodbye to Mal, I'm glad you were able to be there to give him a good send off.
xx
