Public service announcement - this is a completely feelings driven reaction, don't expect in depth analysis! Or sense.
Up front - I enjoyed this one but ... there's always a but.

So – where’s Lucifer gone? Has he really ‘gone to Hell’ just because Sam said the words? Or is that something to do with Rowena’s spell? And if so, having Lucifer in Hell but not in the cage isn’t necessarily a good thing now is it.
Mr Ketch’s accent is horrible. Very distracting. American TV seems to think British accents come in two flavours – posh and cockney. A) There are a lot of accents to choose from, plus a neutral one Americans don’t seem to get, and b) that was a terrible attempt at a posh accent. [As for Irish and Scottish, don’t get me started. As an aside, I wonder why they don’t seem to recognise the existence of the Welsh either].
But back to the episode and Mr Ketch - ok, there’s trust and there’s stupidity. Why would he just hand over the exorcism egg and not keep an eye on things to make sure the Winchesters don’t mess up, because the British MoL’s clearly think the Winchester’s are incompetent. Maybe there’s another Mr Ketch rescue awaiting us, since Cas is distracted with his run away Nephillim Mum and Crowley’s disappeared again.
Although I’m enjoying each episode as it comes, I’m not enjoying the way the Winchesters are being presented as pretty crappy hunters. It’s like they are getting results by accident, almost. Still, got to say both boys looked exceptionally pretty, especially in the sunlight, and in chains. Ahem.
I loved Sam calling the MoLs, I loved Dean’s excitement at the grenade launcher, I liked the President/Lucifer. I thought the actor did a great job, and honestly having Lucifer as President could have been a great plot device to keep going for a couple of episodes at least. I was kind of disappointed they terminated that angle so soon. I suppose part of the reason they couldn’t have Lucifer inside the President for too long was because then the President would burn out and the fall out from that could be a little hard to explain.
But overall, I think the episode felt a bit Winchester-lite and I missed my boys a bit. I could see why it was – there was a lot packed in, but yeah, that could have been spread out over 2 episodes and they could then have given us some more brother moments, dialogue/banter…Is that nitpicky of me? I dunno. As it is, leaving the Winchesters in the hands of the secret service who still have a presidential directive to eliminate them, and are heading ominously for some barn in the middle of nowhere? Yup, that’s a good cliffhanger for a mid season hiatus. Roll on January 26th (27th for me)!
This has been a non reflective, insta-episode-reaction, so I may change my mind when I think about it some more.

Date: 2016-12-09 11:48 am (UTC)I'm still not sold on the MOLUK storyline. But we did get Sam and Dean in chains in the custody of the Secret Service. As someone who prompts 'Winchesters v The Law', 'the boys get arrested', 'the boys end up in prison' every Summergen, this makes me very happy! :D
I imagine they'll probably drive them to a barn in the middle of nowhere and then Ketch will get involved somehow, but oh well.
Edited to say that I've just watched the promo for the next ep and...I do hope that over hiatus we get some good fanfic that's based on the snipped they showed!!! :)
