Third - art masterpost for KevinBB

I'm so lucky with my authors lately :D. For kevinbb I pulled firesign10 out of the hat, and as always, she's an absolute pleasure to work with. This is the banner for her story, Third.
The art is SFW but be warned, the story isn't!

I only did the one picture, so here it is again, textless and full size.

Well not actually full size, because that would be ridiculous on here, LOL. I like to work large and this is only 1600px across instead of the 6000 of my original file.

The progress part:
I made the background first, using shapes and my newfound ability to use the stroke function, gradients and shapes. Woo hoo! I rather liked how it turned out, and used a Solomon's key brush in the centre. I downloaded it free from somewhere a very long time ago, so can't point you to the source.
I then started working on the triumvirate of Sam, Dean and Kevin. Here's Sam in progress, from a screenshot I remembered to take.

Boys taking shape - I even remembered to do little test palettes on a separate layer so I could find the colours again - especially useful for the skin tones.

For Sam I used the promo pic of Sam framed in the V of the Impala's trunk and windscreen holding a shotgun. Dean's ref was a season 6 promo pic and Kevin's a still from an episode. The finished picture looks nothing like these references! Ha ha!

This art is so gorgeous! :D:D I love the personality and emotion in Kevin's expression (not to mention his long, soft hair :)). The Winchesters are wonderful too. I'm especially delighted by bare-chested Sam, and his very touchable chest hair. :D

That is really cool, I love that you've shown us the how of what you did. As someone who just can't work out how to use the paint programes like this, I'm always fascinated by the process.

I just discovered PS has a mixer brush which is (I think) way better than the smudge tool I'd tried before. So now I'm trying to practice using it with varying success!
