That was a great fic. It clarifies some of what bothers me about that plot twist (apart from the general "what's dead should stay dead for god's sake SPN stop bringing characters back"): a person isn't a thing that you give as a reward or a thank you, and especially a woman isn't a thing that you give to a man, in a role defined by her relationship to him, for completing a heroic task. It does make Watson-level sense that Amara wouldn't think of that issue -- she's not human, and her definitions of love and family, like SPN's, are messed up beyond any fix-it -- but I wish I had confidence that SPN on the Doyle level has thought about how bringing back Mary as something to be given to Dean (and Sam, depending on where they go with the story) because he wants it is disturbing and disturbingly gendered.

THIS so much. People (whatever their gender) are not toys, where one breaks so you repair it, or buy a new one. I so hope the show WILL deal with at least some of the issues around Mary suddenly finding herself taken from (somewhere) and gifted to two grown men she's never met and doesn't know.
