Edited to point people to the discussion below this post - apparently this Squee doesn't include any male fans, even though I had always thought of the SPN fandom in particular as being a family, and therefore inclusive. That saddens me.

Something that fascinates me - how did we all arrive here, and what makes us stay? The deadline isn't until October, so plenty of time to put your story together! By the way - I know fanboys are a minority round here but they DO EXIST. I'm sure this isn't meant to be exclusively female!

SQUEE!

Welcome to a book project by me and the amazing [livejournal.com profile] rivers_bend. We love our fandoms, but above all we love fangirls and we wanted to put together a book written by fangirls about being a fangirl. A book by us, for us.

This book is to be a collection of the sort of tales we tell each other over a few cocktails. Our origin stories, stories about becoming a writer or an artist, of friendships made and hours spent posting pics of very pretty people.

We hope many of you will contribute essays or anecdotes to the collection. It might be 3,000 words about an epic fangirl road trip, or 500 words about some mad moment on LJ. We want stories from the fannish past too -- from the days of photocopied fanzines, and messageboards and long dead fandoms.

We hope the book will be – like fandom - eclectic and quirky, diverse and just a bit dangerous.

You can find all the details about the book and how to submit to it at Squee the book!

I am so excited to kick off this book-shaped project and hope you'll help boost the signal so we can get an amazing array of fangirl tales. But most of all submit your fangirl story to us.

Join in the Squee!

PS Thanks already to the awesome fangirls [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope, [livejournal.com profile] hells_half_acre, and [livejournal.com profile] counteragent who already helped with getting the website together.

Book editor person here. We know there are many fanboys - the interwebs are full of them and they have had books and many movies made about them. This book however is just for those of us who identify as fangirls.

Really? That feels wrong to me somehow, especially within the Supernatural family. Okay, men are a minority in SPN fandom but surely that is all the more reason to include them and see what it is that draws them into a female dominated environment, to balance against the female view.

One book cant be all things to all peopleand that topic may well be a great book project some fanboys may want to produce. Women's voices are the ones that have to fight to be heard, and this book is providing that space for us.

That disappoints me greatly. I don't think this fandom should be about excluding any individual's view, especially in something which should be about celebration of a community.
