A little bit about my Roman Holiday, with pics, of course.  Mega late but never mind.
It was nice this time to go round the sights with company, as two of my good SPN friends were with me.  We shared an apartment in a very central location, just across the road from the Victor Emmanuel monument in fact.  It was a baptism of fire in how to cross a Roman road for Viv, who hadn't encountered Rome traffic before. Still, we survived!
Firstly I have to point out that I took my tour guide duties very seriously,so I have to apologise to Jane and Viv for failing to fit in some rustica pizza.  I think I fulfilled my gelato responsibilities with flying colours though, which was, after all, the most important thing after making sure Viv got to see the sights as it was her first time in Roma.

So on arrival in Rome proper, having dumped our bags with the apartment/hotel, our first priority was the nearest ice cream shop. Buying Jane's hunky priest calendar was an also-ran in comparison. Yup, that is Trajan's Column in the background.
First proper ice cream of our trip
On that first day we purchased our Roma Passes - €34 and well worth it. First call was the Colosseum, and we spent a good couple of hours inside exploring the building and checking out the museum. There is so much more to see than there used to be, and their having cleaned up the stone makes a huge difference. It used to be so dark inside when the walls were all black with pollution.
Viv and Jane bent over backwards to get into the photos...

And we discovered a statue of Ty Olssson. Nice bod, Benny, you should flash it about more often!

After a nice meal at the gay cafe Paul and I found last time (on the Via San Giovanno in Laterano in case you are wondering), we made our way through the Palatine Hill to the Roman Forum.  It was warm and sunny but very windy, so we suffered a bit on the Palatine from dust devils (fortunately nothing as lethal as sharlot's fanfic ones!).  Our left over pizza, sadly, did not survive being dropped on the floor outside the House of the Vestal Virgins.

I love Rome's umbrella pines...

This is a great time of year to visit, there are wild flowers every where - especially poppies, like these in the Roman Forum.  We ended up spending about 3 hours there, and were pretty footsore and so weary by the time we finally made it back to our apartment, we totally failed to venture out again, so missed Jensen singing at Jason Manns' concert at the Jailbreak.  This resulted in many random outcries of BALLS!!! when we visited Ostia on the following day.  Having enjoyed the raptures of soaking our feet in the bidet instead of watching Jensen sing was somehow no consolation.

I expect you can see how upset we were, can't you? Oh well, we got over it eventually. Found a variety of cultural, artistic and nature/wildlife things to divert our attention...

Jane claimed she didn't know where her hand was.  Right.
Well, when you find a loo you have to go. Hedgedillos and their eggsWhere there are stairs, we must go down. Or up
As all tourists know, when you find a decent loo, make use of it.  These are not pine cones but hedgeadillos.  A triabble will explain all shortly.  And where there is a hole, there is a British touristico.
This post is now rather long so I'll do Wednesday and Thursday's adventures some other time.

I probably will because I love the city so much, I never get tired of it.
