Snaffled from jj1564, who snaffled from milly_gal , who snaffled from wings128!

Name six movies you can watch any time without ever getting sick of them

  1. Princess Bride

  2. Serenity

  3. Withnail and I

  4. Local Hero

  5. Raiders of the Lost Ark

  6. The World's Fastest Indian

And for Christmas - Trading Places

Well that was tough! These are not necessarily my favourite films of all time, or the ones I think were the best either, because some of those were so difficult/traumatic to watch I've only seen them once. Like The Deer Hunter and Midnight Express, for example.

Right I just went with the criteria that if they come on, I can watch them every single time :-D

Oh, how did I miss Serenity!!

Yep using that criteria I should add Peter Pan too, because I'll always watch it - and Stardust.

Local Hero!!

It's abysmal how few people know this movie.

"We can't just leave it--it's suffering."

"Well, but how?"

"We should hit it with something hard."

"We already did that."

Plus, the Twelfth Doctor, as a mere yout'.

IKR? I just love it to pieces. Bill Forsyth had a golden period there - with that one, Gregory's Girl (love that too!) and Comfort and Joy.

Raiders and The Princess Bride would both rank very high for me too! Withnail and I is on the list of movies I keep meaning to watch, but the other two are entirely new to me--I'll have to check them out.

Withnail is just so - ridiculous. If you were to describe the two characters they'd sound like caricatures but McGann and Grant make them completely believable and somehow likeable. And the dialogue is just fabulous. Local Hero is gentle, funny, moving - and has a wonderful Dire Straits score. The World's Fastest Indian is totally uplifting and Antony Hopkins is amazing. Highly recommend all of them!

Raiders is great, when I was in high school we'd try to count how many on-screen punches Indiana landed during that first fight scene (only two), it's such a well done film.

Princess Bride... check
Serenity (with an 8-episode Firefly appetiser)... check.
Raiders of the Lost Ark.... already close to triple digits with this one but still able to squeeze in another viewing

Local Hereo.... Wow. I haven't seen this on in a loooong time. I remember I liked it though.

I've heard of the others but haven't watched them, so I'd replace them with Emperor's New Groove, and either Thunderheart or Captain America: The Winter Soldier (although it might be too early to be sure of TWS yet).

Christmas movie: Die Hard. My kids and I skype it on Christmas eve.
