Summary: The worst thing is the silence that surrounds them.

I started off with the guidelines for the perspective (which I accidentally rubbed out later and then lost the vanishing point, but never mind, the intention was there, right?), and started drawing with the coloured pencils. I was using Koh-i-noor Magic pencils and they are lovely. I made a bit of a mess if the buildings (using fine-line sepia markers).

Then I decided I should really sketch the whole scene out before carrying on colouring

Then inking with a dip pen and bottled sepia ink

More colouring and I've left my hand in there so you can see how stupidly small this is. Next time I'll use a bigger piece of paper (especially with my crappy eyesight!)

So above is the final coloured pic before getting the PS treatment.

This is incredible. The little details are amazing, and it's kind of inspirational in a way. It kind of sets the mind racing - how did they get there, what happened, so on. It's different from your other work but a lot of the detail you put in to your other work is still there, it's just spread around a little more, and the tone you've conveyed is perfect. This is absolutely bleak and gorgeous. What an awesome job filling the prompt. I love the way everything recedes off into the distance and how the boys are the focus but also not all at the same time, if that makes any sense. Great work.

Yes, this is so evocative and sets the mind to speculating--how'd they get here? Is this the end of the story, or the beginning? What's just out of frame, or is this sort of all there is, what's left?

The energy of the piece is quiet, but there's a sort of hum, a current, just waiting for some action. And I love how close the guys are--got your back kind of "us against whatever". Defensive and ready, but without that on guard sort of tension. They're not really expecting trouble.

I *have* to go read, now, see if my impressions have any merit at all.

And I said my impressions, but neglected to express my admiration--I love the energy and the feel of the lines and the open spaces. Well done!
