Mum - a poem/drabble
Nov. 20th, 2015 11:03 pmI've been staying with my Mum for a few days, and we are away for the weekend with her now, and to be honest, though she's doing great in many ways, it's hard to see her on her own without Dad. Anyhow. I wrote a sort of drabble poem.
Marian, Alone.
Marian, Alone.
How did it happen? After all these years – to go from we to I,
From us to me, from ours to mine.
Do you think it will ever stop hurting?
At breakfast, lunch, dinner time
I sit at the table alone, facing an empty chair.
A single plate, a single knife, nothing there to share.
I divide the bread and cheese into two portions anyway.
How did it happen? After all these years – to go from we to I,
From us to me, from ours to mine.
I know this hollowness is here to stay.
I miss you, my love.
